Nice looking hat! Suits you very well.

SOC stands for Streets of Cairo. Also the hat suits you Croft.

Hi Indiana Nate.. I've been in touch with Michelle... I'm having difficulty deciding on sable or deep sable. Which is the color of your Raiders poet?
Please accept my sincerest apologies for not answering your question until now!
My Raiders is the original Sable, and my LC is the Deep Sable. Michelle had not yet begun to offer the Raiders in the deep sable when I ordered mine, so I do not envy your decision!!! I’ve seen a negative opinion or two voiced here on the tone of the original sable, but I love it. The contrast between the color of the felt and the ribbon is magnificent, in my humble option. With that said, the richness of the color of the deep sable is so luxurious looking. If I could go back in time and actually have the choice, I wouldn’t change a thing. “In Michelle I trust”
Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
No worries, and thanks for the reply.
I would love to know more about the 40th anniversary Raiders they are offering this year. Might make my decision easier.
I feel like no matter what I decide, I will question my choice.

Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
I'd be lying if I didn't have a little sense of FOMO upon hearing just the tease of an anniversary model. And some days I think I could have waited for dark sable beaver. But I'm really satisfied with my Poet, which is to say, I don't think there's a wrong choice!
Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
I have plans to pick up the 40th anniversary along with a crusade this year. Their hats are expensive of course but I have no doubt I will be happy once my first one gets here this month.
Michelle’s customer service has been been pretty great and she really seems to care about making a good product.

Anytime, Hedji! I’m still waiting on my ABL CS, so the last thing I need is another hat, but I don’t know if I have the willpower to pass up a 40th anniversary HJ. This is the first I’m hearing of it. I may have to contact Michelle and see if she’ll give me any info
Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
Yeah, she’s really terrific, isn’t she? The kind of attention she gives you makes you feel like a too priority, and I’m sure she has dozens of customer emails a day. I sure hope everyone at Herbert Johnson is doing well during the current Covid lockdown.
I’m considering many options, but I will definitely own a HJ, it’s just a matter of which one. That 40th Anniversary announcement really is appealing as a collector.

Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
I am not sure if the lockdown is affecting them much. I believe I read Michelle set up a workshop in her home.

Has 40th anniversary model been released or teased or.... Perhaps I missed the info and I can't find it on their website. I'm sure I'm missing something.
Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
Pretty sure it has not been released.

Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
I'm pretty sure that there hasn't been a post from me where I haven't praised Michelle. I'm fairly certain that her workshop is at/near her home, because all of her photos from the shop have remained consistent, even pre-COVID. My LC Poet was ordered during the heart of the pandemic last year and arrived just as quickly as those ordered prior. If anything, I think that the delays are now stemming from the felt suppliers. drftfan, make sure to post some pics of that beauty when she arrives!
I haven't had a chance to reach out to Michelle, but I follow HJ pretty closely on social media and I have not seen any mention of an anniversary Poet. Last big news I saw was the introduction of the Temple Poet, which I now want in order to round out my HJ hat trilogy. It may have to go on the back burner through if a Raiders anniversary is coming.

Well color me interested.
This may seem odd, I have a web site to HJ, but I have no idea if it’s the same one that the rest of you have.
And I don’t want to miss this.
And no I don’t Facebook or Instagram.

Still no word on the release date for the Raiders Anniversary Poet. It is my understanding that some unforeseen circumstances, most likely COVID and Brexit, that are holding things up.

It was my understanding that they were waiting for the actual anniversary of the release date, which won't be till June, I think.

Looks like June might be an expensive month! I better start saving now.
Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
They told me on Instagram that their "campaign will launch on the run up to spring 2021 and the 40th Anniversary."
Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
Anyone have updates regarding the 40th anniversary HJ?
Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
Not really, but HJ started to post more on their socials, so maybe they’ll reveal it soon, who knows.

That looks very nice, thank you for sharing. Do we know what scenes the hat at the auction was used in?

The Prop Store hat is the Streets of Cairo hat, also seen in other parts of the Tunisia shoot.IJJTM wrote:That looks very nice, thank you for sharing. Do we know what scenes the hat at the auction was used in?
They still have a page up with the listing and screencaps: https://propstore.com/mobile/product/in ... re-fedora/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
Ahh, saying 2015 confused me. I was lucky enough to see it when they brought it to SDCC, sadly I wasn’t as into Indy back then as I am now.

At the bottom of their hats of today posts on Facebook and Instagram. I’ll have to stop by their shop. Hopefully my families European vacation doesn’t get postponed again.

No problem, they hide good stuff in small text.
Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
I am somewhat curious about the value of the HJ... I picked one up years and years ago from Magnoli - So it was a HJ fedora that was then sent off to Steve Delk who worked his magic on it. It has been sitting in a glass display cabinet all these years and I may let it go.. but the only one I have seen on ebay was in lousy shape.. Any speculation as to what it may be worth ?
Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
I wouldn’t know for sure, but considering Magnoli hasn’t sold those for a while, I would probably do an auction starting at the price you bought it.
Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
I actually spoke to Michelle earlier this week about an order I'm placing and asked about this. They are shooting for a June release but it's all contingent on if they can secure the materials they need in time. So right now it's a tentative release date.Forrest For the Trees wrote:It was my understanding that they were waiting for the actual anniversary of the release date, which won't be till June, I think.
She said the hat will be a Cairo styled rabbit Poet, unweathered with a new edition liner and interior elements.
Hope this helps!
On another note, I'm in the middle of ordering a Deep Sable Raiders Poet from them and I'm on the fence between having them put in the turn. Michelle said the best thing to do is get it open crown and do it myself but I honestly don't trust myself with that. She said she could put the turn in for me and now I'm second guessing it. I'm wondering if I should go no turn and then, if I feel confident later on, put the turn in myself. Any thoughts on this?

Unless you go open crown, the original Raiders crease styled by HJ is likely to still show if you put in a second, turned crease later. You'd also need to re-adjust the side creases.WarmWaves wrote:I actually spoke to Michelle earlier this week about an order I'm placing and asked about this. Thanks this is helpful. Do you know anyone that may have had problems with having them put the turn in for them? I'm basically leaning towards ordering with the turn put in.

There are some nice videos out there that show how to do it, like on Penman’s Facebook. Also, any idea what price the 40th anniversary will be?

Re: Is Herbert Johnson the holy grail of indy fedoras now?
The turn is basically to make the brim warp the way it looks in a lot of scenes from RAIDERS. It would be no problem for HJ to style correctly, but whether or not you like the resulting look when you wear the hat will come down to personal taste, not HJ's ability to style the turn. You could ask for just a slight turn if you're concerned that the warping would be too drastic for your taste.WarmWaves wrote:eazybox wrote:

A slight turn is what I opted for as the warping can sometimes be overstated in recreations I think. The slight turn looks fantastic in real-life and I'm very pleased. This reminds me I need to get some photos up to show off the new hat.eazybox wrote:The turn is basically to make the brim warp the way it looks in a lot of scenes from RAIDERS.
