Whip Holders

Post by Kungaloosh »

So I own a 10ft, off-brand Bullwhip. I bought it in 2019 at a Renaissance Fair from an arms dealer. Since I've bought it, I've been searching for a good whip holder for it. I have bought several and they all have the same problem:

The wrap is too big, thus the whip tends to slips out.

What I have been trying to find is a holder that tightly & snuggly wraps around the whip.

For example, here is my earlier attempt at making a holder from 2005:

Barring me making one, again, can any one recommend a whip holder that wraps around tightly?

The best holders I know of double wrap around the whip. Totally eliminated the whip slipping.

Agreed - double wrap is the way to go if you don't want your whip to slip. I bought mine from SpadeArcherLeather on Etsy and love it.

How so?

The only way to assure your whip won’t slip in the real world is to use a double wrap. Or you can do what they did in the movies and secure the whip with fishing line.

Sheesh... You guys are all rank amateurs...

Ok, so you have a single wrap, and don’t want to go double wrap, cool.
Single wrap is SA.

So... try this, get an old (or new) bicycle tube, cut it to size and glue it to the inside of the holder.

The dreaded whip slip is the price of screen accuracy, not functionality.

Search back here and you’ll find all sorts of observations about it.

Reducing the slip potential is the key here.

Trust me! ;)

I’ve also had good luck wrapping the fall around the whip, and having that section
In the holder.
I made my own, so I made it to my specific whip specs, so it would hold.

Well, I'm not doing either, so....

Fair enough.

You’ve asked for suggestions, suggestions have been made. If you don’t like them then “May God be with you on your quest.”

There is another option: you coil the whip and wrap the fall around the coils. Then you can hang it in a single wrap holder... It will be just a circle basically, so it cannot slip out.

The shame!!! #-o I apologise, I had only read the rubber layering suggestion, somehow I missed the second part of your post...

I was too excited to share... That is the way I carry my whip on hiking adventures and it has held for hours at a time without any issue.
