The fitted ToD look

Post by mr_alex »

Hey gang,

I'm looking to order a jacket with a more fitted ToD look, but I'm confused about what that would actually mean. On the Indygear website I see this "...As a result, Ford can be seen wearing either a Cooper (loose fitting with uncomfortable nylon lining) or Vic Armstrong’s “Raiders” jacket (tight, trim fit)."

The line above, along with the face that there were 2 jackets, has me confused about what a getting a ToD jacket even means. If I want the trim, fitted look should be looking at a snug Raider's jacket?

Any clarity for styles and vendors who would help me accomplish this look would be appreciated. Thanks!

Steele and Jones has been the #1 TOD jacket in the market at the moment. Many people are ecstatic with the outcome of any jacket from any style from any movie they order from there. A search on that will give you plenty of reviews.

Other than that I'd go with a custom Magnoli if you want TOD.

Wested has a TOD but they don't have a Hero TOD so I can't vouch for how well they do with it.

I suggest you to look at the Steele and Jones cazadora 35. Diego makes, imho, the best and more accurate ToD jacket available nowadays. ToD "hero", as you certainly know, is different from a raider jacket for several caracteristics:pattern, fit, pockets shape and dimensions, buckles (mabye.. because of seems also raider jacket had the two prongs buckles we have in the ToD jacket indeed); and most important Diego makes the best and more accurate distressing in his jackets.

obviusly also the Bill Kelso ToD seems to be very accurate, but i haven't never had one so i can't express a really solid opinion about it.

Thanks, guys! I'll take a look at those options!

I'm still confused about some of the 'Temple' hero jacket details. The small pocket size, hardware, etc. seem like they're part of the Cooper design (associated with the baggier jacket in the movie re: quote above) while the fitted jacket in TOD is a Vic Armstrong's RAIDER'S jacket.

In terms of what I'm looking for in the jacket, I'm less concerned with the Cooper details more for the trimmer fit. Am I correct in thinking a TOD jacket is the best way to go for a fitted look? Or is there a trick to getting a Vic Armstrong style Raider's Jacket?

Thanks for the help!

Hi,
First, I'd like to thank all the kind words and refferences to our ToD jacket replica.
It means a lot to us.

Now, about the ToD jacket:
The jackets write-ups on the main site are under revision, for some time now.
It needs a couple of updates.

No Cooper jacket was used on set, on ToD production.
I don't know about Vic Armstrong’s “Raiders” stunt jacket...but I doubt Ford weared it.

The snug fitting jacket we see at end village scene, most probably is the same weared by Ford (and even some stunt, too) on the river takes.
It got all soaked, and shrunk.

We replicate that look adjusting some pattern measurements.

Cheers.-

PS: We have accurate original buckles present on some of the ToD jackets (not on Noel Howard one), used on the production, that apparently started the rumour of the French company jacket maker...

I'm curious why you would go for the ToD jacket if you are unclear about the details - is it just that it promises to be less baggy?

I have a Wested ToD in a size 42 which fits me fairly trim.

In the movie there is a scene at the end where the jacket seems to be very worn and tight. In the rest of the film the jacket fits more normally. They use various jackets in filming so one was different for whatever reason.

Getting a trimmer fit is mainly about knowing your actual measurements. If you can get the right pit to pit fit, shoulder and sleeve length, the jacket will look less baggy. This can be achieved in any of the Indy jackets. Ignore labeled sizes since they vary and are never a good indication. In some jackets a 42 is big on me in others a 42 is trim.

For instance - I am six two and 186 pounds. For me a good fit is 23 inch pit to pit, 26 inch sleeves, 27 inch back and 20 inch shoulders. If the shoulders are really wide - 22 inches, say, then the jacket will appear much baggier. If the chest is 25 inches, same thing. In Raiders the jacket seems cut large for Ford; this may be the 1980's styling at work.

You can work out your measurements by understanding how a jacket which fits you well is measured. A denim jeans jacket that fits as you like it might supply good measurements to go by.

Mr_Alex... If you’re about a size 42, check out Knibs’ TOD wested on the Bazaar... great looking jacket!
