Thanks Croft!

In case someone missed Croft remark....
the distressing is done PRIOR to assembly. No thread is compromised.
Indiana Croft wrote:Han a rather new member reach ou to me about the level of wearabillity when a jacket is distressed prior to assembly, well I told him I had no fears.

But I did add some close up's, so I thought I'd share. This was done by the skillful hands of a master, Diego the man.

Croft, if you can post a picture of your jacket, showing the back of the left sleeve, we will see a particular distressing mark.

I mean a picture like this:

Just to show how far we go for accuracy in S&J
Look the heavy distressing in the back of the sleeve, between elbow and cuff.

It was done on purpose, to replicate the distressing present on the actual jacket.-

Thank you IndyOriginal, this jacket is my go to, I just love all the brown undertones and the distressing job is spectacular, you'd think I took this right off Indy's back.

Now as per requested, my version of hanging off the front. Sorry no old Mercedes trucks in the neighbor hood so my trust Jeep had to fill in, along with my good old sand pit.
Oh and the Misses was kind to lend a hand.

Wow, the undertones of that jacket are superb! Really digging this jacket Croft. I might have to get in touch with them to find out the specifics.

Also really love the lid. Who makes it and was it pre-weathered or did you do that?

I hope they what you wanted, they really don’t do the jacket justice. But it’s always fun.
May have to try doing it with the I pad.

As far as the lid, it’s HJ poet that I bought Lon ago and sent to Steve Delk to re-block into a SOC, then I just dust it up with fullers. This never see any weather that includes a drop of rain. Only hot weather.

my jacket arrived yesterday and it will take me a couple of days to post pics but wow .. its amazing .. the leather is wonderful and the attention to detail on the weathering is just fantastic. its also a very substantial leather .. id say slightly thicker than a standard lamb or washed lamb. it has some lovely little nuances such as the zip which inch classic bronze and isn't silver but is a really lovely in between shade that perfectly sets off the leather. its absolutely top notch quality as always with Steele & Jones ..

Thank you Diego and Roberto for this jacket .. its absolutely Amazing. in the absence of images from me (yet .. they will come) please feel free to post the images you sent me before it was posted off.

regards

Al

Thanks Al for the kind words

On the zipper, it's nickel zipper
The same as in the original jackets (before any ask....no, it wasn't aluminium)
The bronze shade you see it's just natural oxidation for storage.
Can be easily clear off with zipper cleaner lubricant, but I won't recommend...if you want to keep the jacket accurate.

Enjoy it!!
Cheers

Beg to differ, old friend, but Peter Botwright told several of us on MANY occasions in the 90’s it WAS aluminum zips on the first jackets due to no time to get correct ones for the shooting schedule, and when pressed refused to try and source them for folks as he said he’d be spending all his time replacing them when the teeth broke, as they did on the originals.

He substituted nickel YKK zips in their place.

Not here to start an argument.... just repeating what the man himself told us before this ‘hobby’ grew legs. ;)

Regards! Michaelson

PS. Taking a trip on the 'way back machine', I dug up an old email I still had in my 'saved' file from 1998. I blanked out my email address:

Hello M!
Thank you for contacting me again. I can confirm the zips on the production Indiana Jones jackets were aluminum because we didn't have enough turn around time to source better.
I used zips I had on hand, and no longer use them as the teeth are easily broken. I can substitute nickel or brass on request.
My best to you.

That's why your the knower of all things my friend.

And Character I'm so happy your jacket arrived. And yes the leather is a little thicker than my Wested, but I feels better and I'm not scared to hit and edge or two.

Can't wait to see the pictures, Diego has hit it right out of the park.

We have to start wearing masks, so I went with Shemagh style scarf. More Indyish.

And with no jacket, and no I don't get to wear the hat all day, it's not etiquette.

Hey

id heard that on the zips myself but i love the slightly oxidised look ... if they did end up painting the zips brass for shooting its a great halfway house .. its looks aged without being aged .. which is fantastic! ..

Ive never had a jacket that just looks the part without even being tried on .. its currently hanging in my room. its so darned hot here currently (for a change) and I'm in the middle of shifting about 4 tons of dirt in the back garden i don't want to make its all sweaty! ...

I'll try and take some pics today if i can but I've no one to take pics of me in it at the moment and if i fess up to my wife that 'yes I've bought ANOTHER Indy jacket' I'm not sure of the reaction! lol ... i may end up the participants ion an ACTUAL Truck Drag! ...

the weight of this jacket is beautiful

Your jacket looks fantastic! Congratulations! Steele & Jones are doing incredible work.

I can sympathize with not immediately telling the wife, lol. When I placed my Truck Jacket order in April, I decided to wait a while before telling my wife. This is my second Indy jacket (first was a Bill Kelso Relic Hunter) and I thought it might be better to "beg for forgiveness, instead of ask for permission" on this one, lol.

Enjoy your awesome Steel & Jones Truck Jacket!

:-k Hmmmm where have I seen that jacket, oh ya, in my kitchen.

That looks awesome, I can’t say enough about how i love wearing this and how it looks. The distressing work and the time Diego put’s into his craft, each one is a work of art.
And your jacket is just another testament to what S&J can make.
I only fear what they’ll come up with next.

And I asked the the misses before ordering, she said go for it, knowing that it was only a year
ago I bought a S&J ToD hero.

Enjoy wearing that one you’ll find that you won’t care how hot it is, you’ll want to wear it. Heck even if it’s with just a T.

Sounds familiar, Bullet hole in sleeve, be very cautious, you go first. :CR:

PS I need to get couple picture up, this baby is getting better and better.
Got caught in a rain shower so be careful, I had some bleed through. Used Ritt dye remover on a Azuma shirt, didn't take the dye from the shirt out, but did take the leather bleed out, which all I cared about. May have lightened it some.

But the grain did pop a little, and only makes it better. :TOH:

Another wonderful surprise this week when a magnificent S&J Raiders Truck jacket appeared in my studio.
The fit, the quality of the leather, the finish and the distressing are all perfect and their artistry and dedication put into making these works of art set a bar that all other vendors will be compelled to work very hard to match.

Many thanks to the legendary S&J team.

So awesome. Love the collar shape on that! I would buy one of these in a heartbeat if I didn't already have a Relic Hunter. Can't justify another jacket these days, especially because I have owned a total of 9 Indy jackets over the last decade and a half. But my goodness, can you imagine if this Truck jacket from Steele and Jones had been available back in the day? One and done!

Its a stunning jacket.

I also have one of the S&J TOD jackets and I always thought that it was the ultimate jacket for me. When this one arrived, I knew immediately that I'd been wrong and although I now own a total of 6 x Indy jackets, this one is certainly the best of them all.

Thank you again gentlemen!

It's similar to the one you have on the 35.
But, different fabric. More durable so to speak.

It's exactly the same as in the original jacket at Smithsonian.

About the problem on your ToD jacket lining from us, we'd love to help you with re-lining.
Please, send us an email, and we will work this out together.

While it may be to warm to wear in the afternoon these day in NH, if it's
anyway cool in the morn, it's on \:D/
Love'n this jacket.

The textures are really coming out and the distressing is only getting better.
And if it needs to e said, it's all done prior to assembly.
Jacket got a little wet while back and I don't recommend the soaking treatment and neither does S&J, a little won't hurt. :CR:

Great photos, Croft. Your photographer did a nice job capturing the true color of S&J's Chocolate Ribby Lambskin.

Your jacket looks like it's holding up well despite getting caught in that rainstorm. It's a beauty.

The weather here in North Carolina feels like 95+ in the shade most days now. Too hot to wear a jacket outside. Due to COVID, all my trips have been postponed until 2021, so I'm working from home every day. More than once, I've turned the AC down and slipped on my Truck Chase Jacket while at my desk. It makes the work seem a little more, well...adventurous. Earlier this week, I had to work offsite for an afternoon, so I grabbed my S&J jacket and tossed it in the Jeep along with my briefcase. I knew I wouldn't put it on, but I wanted to see what it would look like come fall and I'm (hopefully) back on the road more.

Thank you Diego and Steele & Jones for crafting such a fine jacket. You guys are incredible!

A Jeep you don't say.
Here ya go, a little fuzzy, I was messing around with some post apocalyptic googles, (and non-Indy shorts)

And thanks guys for the compliments, gotta say this seems to be Holy Grail of jackets as I've always loved distressed, they just take to long to get to this level, this looks like I've owned it for 50 years or was a hand me down from my Father.

PS the pictures were take with my I-Pad, made a holder so I won't fall off, and there ya go.
The Misses was busy and I like taking them from time to time.

Now that would be an interesting twist to Indy 5: Indy wearing shorts!!

Nice Jeep! Pairs well with the Steele & Jones Truck Chase - the Holy Grail of Indy jackets.
