Professor Glasses Broke

Post by car96 »

Well after 10 days of wear my optometrist broke my glasses while trying to adjust them.

Oh no. I hope your doctor replaces them for you.

Usually unless they were purchased through that doctors office, the doctor will tell you that they can't be liable for an adjustment since they weren't bought through them......but they WILL adjust them with that understanding from the get-go and it's all on the owner should something go south.

Hopefully that's not the case here.....but I've taken TOO many of my own personal frames to my doctor for adjustments in the past and have ALWAYS been told that before an adjustment was made.

Were they from Magnoli or originals?

Ahhhh, Michaelson....I didn't know this.

They were a Secret Santa gift from Magnoli this season and I had my doctor fit my prescription into them as it was no problem.

They asked where I got them from so I showed them the website to Magnoli. They suggested I go with a different pair after trying to find similar glasses in this style...there just are not that many.

I am bummed I did not get much life out of them. I got so many compliments from friends and strangers. I really liked them and they were starting to break in and become comfortable.

When I took them back in for being too tight around my temples...they did not mention about liability. I thought they lady adjusting them had been a little too rough with the glasses from the start .

They did mention I do have insurance coverage against breaking them up to $130...so they broke them, but it's my one time get out of jail free from breakage insurance claim I guess that is being used. They are getting me a new pair and I will have to cover any cost above the $130 amount. Needless to say I am trying to stay below the $130.

Not happy about it, but it is what it is. They should replace them, they broke them.

Yeah, been there, done that! ;)

My last pair I purchased was a set of frames from Warby Parker, but I had my optometrist put in the lenses.

They were quite complimentary on the quality of the frames, but still gave me the standard warning they would be happy to adjust them, but they wouldn't be liable if they broke.

Fortunately there wasn't much adjustment required.

I'm ALWAYS sweating bullets when I bring them a set of antique gold frames for lenses, though. Old frames are just not forgiving if someone with a heavy touch gets hold of them.

I’ve bought a number of glasses from this company. One was NOS and the rest reproduction. Great quality.

They carry a number of early style glasses.

Install lenses;

We are a full service optical shop with 30+ years
experience - Please note, Rx lenses and some
custom tints will add roughly 10 days to your order.

http://eyeglassboy.com/Framesize.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

All our frames are optical quality (ready
for your prescription). Most of you will
take our frames to your local optician,
but if you rather, we can do your lenses:
Rx, Plain, or Tinted Sunglass
(single-vision only*).

Just fax, or scan & email your
prescription. The price is usually the
same or less than your hometown optical
shop.

Rx lenses with a single-vision
prescription are $54.99

Rx Lens in Polycarbonate (harder,
thinner) are $79.99

Non prescription clear lenses (CR-39
safety) are $39.99

Non prescription Tinted (sunglass)
lenses are $39.99

Give us an extra week for lens service.
No returns on glasses with custom
lenses.

I inquired about your glasses to eyeglassboy and sent your image. Here’s his response.

Those are a fairly common P-3 style from the 80s-90s... What size?
Are you trying to salvage the lenses for the new pair?
I may have temples to repair the old ones...
