Temple of Doom Cosplay Machete

Post by Zaphod »

I am working on a cosplay for Temple of Doom from the bridge scene. I needed a machete that I could carry at a con. I looked around at alternatives and decided to make my own. I modeled my prop off the Noble Collection Temple of Doom machete. Members from the forum on Indygear.com were kind enough to provide me with detailed pictures and dimensions of the Noble Collection machete. I worked with a 3D modeler on Etsy by the name of CP3DPrinting to create a 3D model. He made the model and 3D printed the prop. I then assembled, painted and finished the prop. See the attached for pics of the finished prop and pics during production. While not an exact replica it will suit my needs.

Wow! That is beautiful! I would be very proud to have that in my collection! Did some of that shine come from using Rub-n-Buff?

Thank you for the kind words. I used Molotow Liquid Chrome in an airbrush for the blade and parts of the handle.

Did you sand it smooth before painting, or did you use a 3D filler or a little of both?

I used filler primer. I put on about 12 coats. I sanded between each coat. 3D printed pieces have small print lines that you have to fill and smooth. You do a LOT of sanding.

I would love to purchase the finished product. I have almost zero skill to put the sword together myself.

Looks awesome, though!
