Wested goat vs Rosetta weight.

Post by Pris »

Hey all,

Pulling the trigger on my third jacket. I've currently got a shrunken lamb Raiders which I love and a First Class Magneto in burgundy lambskin.
I like the weight of the shrunken lamb as it's good for most of the year excluding summer.

I'm just wondering if goat is much heavier and thicker than my shrunken lamb and how much thicker and heavier is the Rosetta then from goat.
I don't want too heavy or I won't be able to wear it.

Also, how is the feel of goat. I like the somewhat rough feel of the shrunken lamb. My burgundy lambskin is too smooth and way too thin. I really only wear it as a light going out jacket.

Cheers!

This will depend on the particular batches of leather Wested has in stock at any given time. You might be better served to ask them directly. Sometimes their stock goat is heavy, sometimes it is light. I guess this is because goat sometimes comes in 2.2oz thickness and sometimes it is closer to 3oz.

Generally goat is heavier than lamb but it will depend on the batch. I never buy lamb as I don't like the light weight and comparative weakness.

I have Wested's Menlo copy jacket in the Rosettta hide - it is heavy compared to most goat and lamb and would be described as a medium weight by most leather jacket makers.

The Rosetta hide I got (and again it can vary between batches) is a bit bland (a very even brown) and I found the top coat comes off with wear exposing a light grey which I am not crazy about.

Remember the feel of any hide isn't until it is broken in a worn. So please don't base your choice on feeling a jacket just after it is made. The unique properties of a hide don't really show for a year or so of regular wear. Got s notoriously hard wearing and takes a long time to develop character because it is abrasion resistant.

I'm actually getting used to my standard lamb more and more.

It's a much snugger fit than my Raiders. Do you think it looks ok as I was going to use the same measurements for my Skyfall. Was thinking maybe an extra half inch on the sleeves as they pull up a bit when I bend my arm but standing straight they're the perfect length. Maybe an extra inch on back length too?
