What are the best pants/trousers available ??

Post by micsteam »

Now that Todd's Indy pants/trousers are no longer available.. which are the best now ?? I've had Wested's before (purchased in 2006) but I wasn't entirely happy with them as far as color, buttons and fit but I understand they've come out with a different design now. I'm looking for a pair in Raiders color and spec. What's everyone's opinion or advice ?? :TOH:

I'm looking at a new pair now as well, so I'll be very interested to hear opinions also.

Hi micsteam,

I would say that currently the most accurate pants closely to the original fabric, color and design are offered by Magnoli. Not certain about the latest Wested trousers, not sure if they are already in the 3rd generation. Take a look at the picture below. MBA (Raiders) Trousers above, Magnoli Trousers middle and Wested (2nd and 1st generation) below.

Todds' trousers fabric and colour were matched from a MBA raiders swatch and were as close as possible if not identical. Magnoli trousers although not identical to the MBA (Raiders) are extremely close and when paired with a khaki shirt, the colour difference is I would say not visible with a pair of magnifiers :) . Design is very good, better than Wested IMO. They are baggy enough while they sit lower than the MBA.

Has anyone tried the offerings from WPG lately? Curious how they stack up. Just saw they have a new version for 2019.

Thank you indygr for your comparisons from your collection !! I know Magnoli and they make very nice products so I will look into that. I'm curious as to what Wested's latest pants look like. IndianaJustin, I haven't had a pair of WPG's pants but the only problem I've seen from them in the past is their offerings change from supplier to supplier (whom they source from), it can fluctuate.. greatly at times. That being said, in the past I've loved WPG offerings. Its here where we can share experiences so lets keep this thread going. If anything comes up on my end I'll be sure to share. :TOH:

I emailed WPG to ask the difference between the 2015 style and 2019 version. What I received back is this: 'Better fabric and color.' Short and sweet.

Ugh, not a fan of those types of responses... What is better to one person is such a subjective thing

Agreed, not much to go on there. Especially since I don’t own the previous generation! ](*,)

I have ordered many things from WPG and most have been good. They also offer good customer service. I recently ordered a new pair of the WPG pants and did not care for them. I have a pair of the WPG light pants that are no longer available. I found the new ones to be very different from the older ones. The color was different. The button fly was longer and the crotch and seat area seemed significantly baggier. I prefer a trimmer cut. I returned the pants.

Thanks for this info. Could you describe the color a little more? Did you like it better?

Regarding the color of the new WPG pants...they are closer to the Wested color in the pic at the top of the post. They more brownish. The older WPG were closer to the other pairs of pants in the pic. I prefer the older color but that is just me. It is not based on screen accuracy. I am not an expert in that area.

Are the WPG trousers a cavalry twill? How is the sizing?

Also, how is the Wested sizing? Seems they size the waist small and I should size up (normally I wear 36 pants, but the size guide seems I should order a 38).

Had to pick up some slacks for my Niece's wedding last month and found some close-enough trousers with what looked ( to my untrained eye ) to be a nearly spot-on match to the raiders color - a slightly darker taupe with just a touch of grey. I'll get some pics taken for comparison soon. :)
