Indy and the Treasures of the Amazon (dot com)

Post by Indiana Green »

So I stumbled upon a very inexpensive jacket option on Amazon this weekend, and having already outgrown my old Todd's jacket (it's for sale in the Bazaar!) I decided to pull the trigger. All told, it was $55 with free Prime two-day shipping, which is a great value even though it's faux leather. The label says it was made by TheLeatherWears (TLW) and it was sold by an Amazon seller called Faddy-Rox, which looks to have a large selection of faux leather jackets ranging from movies and TV to the Michael Jackson Thriller jacket.

The first thing I noticed out of the box is how soft it feels. For being faux (i.e. fake), it certainly had an authentic leather feel to it. The material is very similar to my Todd's when it was fresh out of the box, only softer. In addition, it also seems to be quite a bit longer in the back, which makes sense as the Todd's jackets seemed to have more of a retro 80's cut to them. I also bought a 2XL, whereas my Todd's was an XL that fit like a Large.

Here are some pics fresh out of the bag, creases and all:

And here's a comparison shot with my weathered Todd's jacket for reference:

I'll probably end up running this jacket through the same weathering treatment I gave the Todd's, which involves:

- a hot shower
- balling it up in a corner to dry
- wearing it slightly damp to set the arm creases and shoulder fit
- light scuffing
- rolling it around the dirt

This type of process generally takes away most of the "faux leather shine" and gives the jacket a much more realistic look. Here's a before and after of my Todd's jacket:

Anyway, it was definitely a bargain and if it doesn't work out, it was purchased with an amazon gift card so I won't feel to torn-up about it.

Thanks for looking!

P.S. I've been away from the boards for a few years and it's really good to be back. Glad most of the gang is still here! :)

Don't think I've ever seen a faux leather Indy before.

Give it's made of vinyl, it's unlikely to absorb dirt or lose its shine like a leather jacket will. You may be able to crease it but the creases might not stay put. This kind of material is designed not to age like leather.

You may need to use some kind water based paint or application to create the illusion of wear and dirt - you'd need to pick the color carefully and test it in a corner. A couple of different, slightly contrasting colors (maybe a red/brown undertone and much lighter brown) lightly applied and partly rubbed off in wear areas might look ok. And maybe some fine steel wool might knock the sheen off. Depends what you are hoping to achieve.

Good luck.

Very interested to see how this turns out and what it looks like wearing it.

Yes. The top and bottom are. It's the Faux leather. The middle one is the Real Leather made by the same company that I wore at Pensacon.
