1911

I'm sure this has been covered before, but when looking at the conceptual story boards, the "Indy" character was using a 1911 and carrying it in a standard US military web belt and holster. What caused the change to the revolver?

Short answer, the availability of 9mm blanks vs. .45 blanks on set.

9mm were more readily available, and cheaper!....at least that's what the Paramount prop master told me in a phone call discussion back in 1986..... :-k ;)

Makes sense to me. Efficacy is efficacy.

Spielberg was also trying to keep things under budget, so it was more than likely all about the money than anything else. ;)
