Hey indyfan.
So the links are not working without copying and pasting.
You can remedy this by using the URL option then pasting link and again closing with URL option. This way all we need to do is click and it transports ya to a magical place. Nice hat too.

Like this.
//uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201801 ... aba32a.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

FYI

I've been playing around with some of the site settings regarding image size, trying to limit some of the enormous images getting posted.
(Not everyone views the board on a 24" HD monitors... ;) )
This might be why some things don't work.

I'm trying to find the sweet spot for posting size.
Case in point, the image 2 posts up is 649x866.
This is not normal message board size.

The current setting for the board is 640x480, which is a standard image size 4:3 ratio.
Every picture hosting site has some built in resizing tool.
And I know that tapatalk asks what size to upload (at least my iphone version does.)

Stay tuned.

Yes, that was the issue and I resized accordingly.

This year is my year of custom hats. So it’s time to leave my Akubra Federation Deluxe III in the closet and get some good use out of my adventurebilt.

Now you can at least click and be taken to the link. The thing is you have to use the URL to wrap link between. Obviously something is afoul with tapatalk’s direct image upload link.

I've been meaning to post these photos since I got my AB Crystal Skull back from John Penman who reblocked it on his AB Raiders block, replaced the liner, cleaned it and replaced the ribbon.

A couple before and afters:

Right out of the box:

And right before shipping it off to John to Compare:

Image
Image(This was the taper I wanted to get rid of to get a better Raiders look)

Since receiving it a month or so ago I've added a pinch of fullers earth, just so the ribbon didn't look so brand spankin' new. I like it better.
It definitely breathed new life into the hat and I think looks great. The only thing is that the fit actually got bigger so I've had to put some foam in the liner for a snug fit, otherwise I could pull the hat down past my ears! ha.

Also, the new AB liner is much nicer in comparison to the Staff of Ra liner I had that was coming loose and very sweat stained. If you haven't seen that liner it's what John uses on his Legacy fedoras.

I'm going on a little road trip down highway 1 today in California with the AB on so perhaps will have a couple new shots to share later.

Yes he will. He's taken over the Adventurebilt business from Steve and offers the same refurbishing prices as Penman hat owners. So, free bath and discounted reblocking. His prices are on his website. The turn around is the same as ordering anything custom from him, so a few months. 3-6 I believe before he asks you to ship it to him and then another month or so for him to work on it and send it back.

He still has a vintage Cavanagh Fedora I sent him at the same time for the sweatband to be resewn in.

He's a busy man so a little patience is needed, but it's totally worth it to add longevity to your precious AB.

Its a great looking hat too. My hat doesn't need to be reblocked but I would like John to put his ribbon and bow work on it. Didn't your original ribbon have an issue?

Thanks. Well it did go extremely purple and faded. Thing is I would love to have that back now that I have been more intonvintage lids.

But yeah John did an excellent job with the rebuild.

A Facebook friend of mine, John Alexander, just sent me this Adventurbilt fedora, and I'm lovin' it! Got it in a trade for a grail diary replica. I absolutely love this hat! I'm going to have the best costume I've ever had at the next big comicon I'll go to. :D

Just out of curiosity, is the brim slightly longer on one side than the other? Dimensional cut aside, for the shots looking straight on at the fedora, the brim looks slightly longer on the left than on the right, and I was wondering if that was an optical illusion?

I only ask because I have something similar going on with my AB, and it's driving me up the wall when I overthink it. Then again, my AB is strange as it is blocked off center.

Hey Castor Dioscuri,

Yes my hat is turned, off center so that distorts the brim. It's a dimensional cut and as it stands in that photo theres about 1/8th more width on the right side of the hat. But if creased on center it is even, 2 1/2" on the sides and 2 7/8" front and back.

Hope that helps.

That completely explains it; I've heard of doing the turn, but never realized that hats were creased after the fact. Makes complete sense, and excellent looking hat by the way! I'm very jealous! ;)

Yeah I agree, it looks really awesome by itself. However after the reblock it fits a lot larger on me than before. I have to have a few good sized strips of foam in it now and I don't know if it looks as good on me anymore. Maybe I'm just used to wearing my Last Crusade hat and have to get used to a real Raiders block/bash vs my Crystal Skull hat with my less accurate Raiders bash. Though John actually told me on the phone that there is next to no difference between the CS and Raiders blocks and probably on him and a few hatters would really be able to tell the difference. Kind of interesting... Either way my hat needed a reblock.

I had to as it has made several trips to Disney world and has been wadded up into lockers for storage when there. It keeps bouncing back, but was getting worse for wear, so I let Dave Garrison take care of it.

My Adventure Built Hat

Post by Darrell4926 »

Hello Everyone,

It has been a long time since I have been on this forum, I have tried to upload
photos of my Adventure Built Hat, hope it worked?
Any way I purchased this hat in 2006, received it in early 2007, I think I waited
about six months for delivery. I have never worn this hat, it has been stored in a hat box.

Thank you for your time,
Darrell

Well yes I could start wearing it, how ever wear and tear would depreciate the
value, kind of like a new car, once you drive your new car off the lot it will
depreciate between $3,000.00 to $5,000.00. I think Steve made about 45 hats
for the movie plus sample hats he sent in to the studio for review. They used
a lot of hats in the movie, hats for Harrison Ford and the stunt doubles plus
anyone else that needed a Fedora.
Any way this hat stays in the box, it is the rabbit fur felt version, it is my
treasure. I have made a few hats that I wear, I have two rabbit fur felt
hat bodies ordered, one Brown and one dark grey, should be here in about
a week, making hats size 7 3/8's or 23 1/2" with high bashed crowns.
not in any rush, just take my time and make them as nice as I can.

I am still wearing my Adventurebilt. I have hiked all 48 of the NH 4,000 footers with the Adventurebilt, except Osceola and Osceola East, when I wore my Crocodile Dundee hat. Last year the last hike I took with the Adventurebilt was North & South Baldface. Nothing but compliments about this hat.
