US Wings Charcoal leather review
In 2008 KOTC was released. The jacket was made by, the late, Tony Nowak. He joined the IndyGear forum and began selling jackets to the fans. It was a great year to be a Gearhead. Sadly, Tony passed away shortly afterwards while vacationing with his family in Italy.
The great thing about Tony was his willingness to share with the fans was what he discovered by looking at a few of the original jackets. The one thing we all knew was that there were striations in the cuts of lamb for the Raider’s jacket which are referred as the “Ribby Moreno” skin.
Tony added a few different cuts of hide to his offerings, one was a gray goat that we referred to as his “Dino-skin” jacket. That was the one jacket I, “Tennessee Smith”, always desired.
Last Friday after going through their lay-a-way process I received the U.S.Wings Charcoal Gray lambskin leather jacket.
It’s hard to describe.
Sarge created the most desired jacket that I’ve ever wanted. It had Tony’s Dino-hide, but wasn’t truly grey. In fact the color is the best representation of Raiders/Temple that I have seen, felt, and personally handled.
I know a lot of people prefer the LC jacket, this is not it. There’s no redness nor overly red undertones to this jacket. It’s brown, aged like TOD but it has that “Dino-skin” texture. It’s also very light weight which is quite extraordinary compared to the heft of the jacket.
What I like most is the length. I have broad shoulders and traditionally wear a ‘46, the XL fits perfectly. The great part is that my long arms and torso are covered at this size.
Anyways, enough about my views, take a look for yourself

That's LAMB???
There must be some confusion here.
Maybe they actually meant Lambeosaurus:
(That's "Indiana" on the extreme right)

I love the texture, very lucky great jacket. I am surprised that they call it charcoal because to me it definitely has brown tones in there.

No, he says in the product description its "U.S.Wings Charcoal Gray cowhide leather jacket." So it's cowhide...

Re: US Wings Charcoal leather review
I'm now hearing with the upcoming cape buffalo offering in December, they are discontinuing the charcoal and russet jackets, as that run was completely sold out. Deliveries expected sometime this week when the entire shipment comes in.
So, enjoy the photos of TS's jacket, as apparently future offerings of the charcoal/russet are off the table as of this writing.

I have one of Tony's original numbered jackets he made for me. He was great to talk with and loved that we loved this hobby. I don't own a US Wings jacket yet. They look great in many posts that I have seen and yours is no exception. Would be great to see some with you in it.

Hey TS, seems I've got the jacket itch again and just found this thread. That has got to be one of the coolest, and definitely most unique Indy jackets I've seen.
Got any shots of how it's aged?

This leather is the exact same as the washed lamb from Wested it seems.

Re: US Wings Charcoal leather review
Just got my US Wings charcoal lamb today and thought I would post a couple pics for comparison. This is my first Indy jacket since 2016, and my first US Wings jacket since 2009. Their quality has remained top notch. I was really pleased with the substantial weight and quality of the jacket, it really feels like something that's made to last. The color is beautiful. It definitely has some brown in it, I would say it's maybe 15% brown, and 85% dark gray. I love the hide as well, and that is the reason I purchased this jacket. I remember the Tony Nowack dino hides and really got excited about it. second picture is with my Bill Kelso Relic Hunter for comparison.

Took the words right out my mouth. It does look a little heavier though.marker2037 wrote:This leather is the exact same as the washed lamb from Wested it seems.
Re: US Wings Charcoal leather review
Based on these pics I would say Wested's washed lamb is a little bit browner and little bit darker and not as heavily dino skinned. Similar though.
