New Ebay Indy Boots - Alden Replicas??

Post by JackShannon »

New here to IndyGear, So not sure if this has been discussed elsewhere.

I ordered and just received some boots from Smart Range Leather/ Boutique England from Ebay, and they seem to be VERY similar to the SA Alden Indiana Jones boot. I do not own a pair of Aldens, so I cannot say for sure. But the best part about these boots, is they cost around $140 to $150 with shipping.

Here is the link to check them out:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Indy-Boots-Ind ... 1438.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Or this Link:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Classi ... 2749.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I will post photos and a review of my first impressions soon. Interested in what you guys think??

Used Aldens sell for $150-$200 on eBay all the time. That's the route I would go, and I have.

What’s your initial impression on if they’re true to size and comfort?

The problem is, I have large feet, usually size 13 to 14 US depending on the brand, and I never see used Aldens in that size.

In these Smart Range leather boots, I ordered the largest size they currently have (UK12/US13).

First impression is that thay are very well made boots. Initial fit is tight, but already has started stretching. But more is needed to be completely comfortable. According to some shoe conversion charts, the US 13 is actually a UK12.5. I believe for most people they would be true to size, unless you are a half size, then order up. I will speak more to their comfort when I get them broke in.

Also, I ordered the Vintage boots in the bottom link, as they were less expensive. Seems to be the same boot. Maybe different laces or color? Or maybe he just charges more for the "Indy" boot name lol

The interesting thing about those is the soles. They state "Oil Resistant"
That tells me they have more grip then Aldens... although will probably wear out faster.

Its funny the discussion on these, I think someone posted in another threat the stamiping on the inner material is the same as westeds. Looks like whoever akes westeds boots is making the most of their design.

The soles appear to be a blend of pulverized cork and neoprene. Definitely sounds grippier than old-school leather soles. Too soon for reviews on the Wested site giving feedback on durability, of course. But the Goodyear welt means they can be re-soled by a competent local cobbler, with whatever you like-- leather, Vibram low-profile lugs...
Anybody have experience with such a conversion?

There are a few videos of Aldens getting a resole with different types of materials on YouTube... IMO using anything other than the original style of neo-cork soles changes the profile and character of the original boot. They loose that "Indy" flavor and turn into just another moc-toe boot.

So I have decide to sell these boots...

They are very nice and well made, but ultimately too small for my foot. The EU46 is just too short for my size 13 foot. I have been saving for a pair of Aldens, and will probably go that route.
