Didn't mean to play 'Captain Obvious', Jerimiah, but we were going down a rabbit hole we didn't need to explore. ;)

Totally agree and understand when it comes to the larger grain hides, as almost everytime you see one you like, what you get isn't what you saw in the photo.

That's why jacket makers usually state 'no two are alike' in a lot of their advertisements.

It's a good offering for someone looking for 'something different', as you never know what you're going to get.

As long as it's a quality product and the grain isn't an issue, but color and quality is, this is a good one to consider!

Another example, a Wested with large grain in SL that KT shared with us a while back

Apparently it's the rage in Italy right now, and moving across Europe.

Like I said above, it's something 'different' for those who'd like owning and wearing an Indy pattern other than small grained brown leather jackets. ;)

"Different" is good sometimes. As a matter of fact, my black G&B Expo is probably my most worn version of late.

Changing things up occasionally is good for the soul. ;)

This reminds me of the batch of lambskin at Wested that Peter called “Crispe”... only that was much more russet Brown... This is a beautiful darker version that suits a Raiders jacket. I had a jacket in that “crispe” and it was really great stuff. Love the variety of offerings. Also, check out Capt. America’s jacket in the Graveyard scene at the end of Winter Soldier. Exact same leather as Peter’s “crispe”. Lots of cool applications. At the time, my only gripe was, it was too russet Brown, and not Raiders like. Looks like US wings got that fixed. :TOH:

Somebody (was it Chewie?) did a really cool black and white movie version of the Indy gear... this would be awesome for that. It actually looks very similar to the screen images in color/tone and I like that it doesn’t have a purple-ish tint.

I’ve never had a russet jacket. Do they feel/sound as crinkly as they look? I really dig the color and price but the texture appearance is freaking me out.

Russet is just a color. The description of the leather is thin cowhide that is supposed to get an advanced wear look without the long term wear to get that look. Have seen that description on a SL lamb they sell. Maybe someone has experience with fast aged look leather.

Russet jacket arrived yesterday. Got a 2XL and the fit is fine. The leather is a smooth reddish brown. It has a waxy look and feel to it. I think the notion it will look aged quickly is the fact that it will show all scuffing and marks on the leather. I have just worn it to work for the last couple days (office) and it has many marks already on the leather. The marks are just contact marks from the car (seat belts and such) and just on the surface of the waxy coating. I like it as it goes with some boots I have.

Oh yeah - it is not really a thin leather and more like a medium leather.

The camera gives it more of a shine than in person. I had a Schott jacket like this before and it will eventually tone down with age and wear. The leather just has a waxy finish. Am sure it could be done by hand if desired.

The fit is a little larger than a Legend but in no way as baggy as a Signature. More of a normal fit.

Have a question about the length of the russet Indy. Is it also rather long in the torso like the Cape Buffalo?

Both jackets appear to be made from the same pattern. I don't personally find these jackets to be too long if comparing the 2XL by USW to a Wested OTR size 48/50. Of course neither company in these sizes will be the shorter length of the jackets worn in the movies. Ford did not wear a 2xl or 48/50 size jacket.

I can of course only comment about the sizes I wear and people who wear the smaller sizes will need to give some feedback.

I do not think one is better than the other. The russet seems slightly thicker and heavier. The buffalo is much softer and lighter than I expected but both jackets are what I would consider a medium weight leather.

The back length on both jackets in 2XL is slightly over 28 inches. 28.25 (28 1/4). Personally for me, I like a 27 inch back but in reality, really do not see a big difference in my other jackets with a 27 or 28 inch back. Then again, I am not a stickler for screen accuracy as I do not like short jackets of any type that sit at the belt wearing modern pants/jeans. If you want a close to screen accurate looking jacket length, these jackets will be too long for that. I think the sizing on these jackets in a regular size seem like a tall in regard to body length. Sleeves on the 2XL are the normal 27 inches I have on all my other Indy style jackets.

The back length on my size medium (in the Cape Buffalo) is 27.5, which is 3 or 4 inches longer than a Screen Accurate pattern would be at that size. Still really like the jacket but there is no doubt it is long (fits like a 3/4 length).

That is a long jacket.

The back length on the medium Legend pattern I have is 25".

The chest is big for a medium as well. Most of my jackets that are in the "medium range" are 22" with "large range" jackets being 23"-24".

Still, a really nice looking leather.

The back lengths on the smaller jackets from what I am reading seem too long. Chest is the same as others I have. The 2XL is slightly longer. Just wanted to add the back straps on the 2XL sit in the same place as my other Indy jackets in size 48/50. That is right at the belt area or slightly at the top of the belt in modern pants/jeans.

If the Medium sits at 27.5 inches in length, then I am guessing that the Large would be the same or even right at 28." No?

I sold a couple of A2 jackets late last year and the size 46 A2 measured at 26.5 back length including the knit waistband. So this Indy jacket would be even a couple inches longer than that...

It's here! I found a nice box from US Wings inside today when I got home. Thanks to my kids who brought it in from the porch. Upon opening, I was surprised by the new russet Indy jacket. First was that this leather was not as shiny as I had been lead to believe. Even with the other pictures here on this thread, the leather still seemed shiny just like on the website. Well, it is not that shiny. In fact, it seems to have been treated or something with leather conditioner or something similar. The leather is pretty soft. Not at all what I was expecting. I have had other cowhide jackets and that leather was a bit tougher and rough. This baby almost feels a bit like lamb! Definitely medium weight but not heavy at all. Soft and supple! I hugged the jacket over and over and had my kids do the same (OK, maybe only jacket nerds like us would understand!). I can't get over the soft feel of this leather.

Now to the pics! The first of these were taken inside under normal incandescent/led lighting. Again, not too shiny, eh?
Image
Image

this last one was taken at around 5pm outside in natural light.
Image

Can you tell which is the new russet Indy? I put the jacket into my closet and I thought this was a cool picture showing the color variation of all my jackets.

Image

From left to right:
Avirex A-2 in horsehide
Wested Indy in goat
S&J Indy in ribby merino lamb
US Wings Indy in russet cowhide
Wested Indy in cotton
Cockpit A-2 in cotton

I tell you, my Garrison raiders will go perfectly with this new jacket given the red tones of the Garrison fedora. It had always seemed a bit off when worn with my dark brown jackets, but the new russet jacket will look great!

Now to the fit, seems really nice. As the pics show, not too long. I am happy with it. One thing, when I went to zip it up, it feels almost a bit snug around my hips. With the extra length, you have to be careful I guess in not gaining too much weight around the middle and the hips!! It fits fine, but I just noticed that down in that area of the jacket. Sleeve length is good, I would prefer maybe 3/4 or 1 inch shorter on the sleeve but it's fine as is. And now to the length. My large measures at 28 inches exactly. My other Indy jackets measure at 25.5 on the back length. If I could, I would have preferred that length and all would be perfect, but it is what it is. I guess with the extra length and the pockets up higher a bit, if I really wanted to I could have it tailored up a bit by a leather specialist but I don't think I want to do that just now.

All in all, I am very happy with this jacket. Is it perfect? No, but there is plenty to like especially with that leather. Well worth it!

It looks like a fit it supposed to be, little too long for my taste. The jacket and the leather surely matches the price.

Looks great. Really nice hide. In Michaelson's original thread on the US Wings offerings, someone reproduced a portion of an email from Sarge saying that he would apply leather conditioner (and let the jacket sit for two days) to any of these new run of jackets bought by one of our members. He forgot to do that on mine. Sounds like he might have done it on yours. Whatever the explanation, it looks great.

That would make sense. The first thing I thought when I touched it was that the leather was treated some way. I guess that would explain why it feels and looks that way, not shiny...

Those are some great looking jackets yawl have. I've been searching for a non-military, music jacket for a while. I think USW might be the ticket. Both of my A-2's are russet and look great, but they are the only ones in a sea of brown, leather jackets. I usually were a 48-50 tall. Any recommendations on sizing?

The 2XL has 27-inch sleeves and 28.25 back. That makes it a tall for me. Not sure what sleeve length you wear.

I have taken my jacket to hem the sleeves in about an inch. They were just a bit too long for my liking and they were driving me crazy. If the sleeves fit, then we are good to go.

Thanks. That is my dress shirt sleeve length. Looks like I may have to thin the heard to add to it.
