Time to Get the Whip...Help Me Choose Wisely.

Post by Bartram »

Ok team,
It's time for me to pull the trigger on the Raider's whip. I've found that screen accurate minutiae matters to me and I'd like this to be a terminal purchase (meaning I'm not going in planning to upgrade it later).

In researching the forums to find active whip makers, it looks like Nolan (at Midwest Whips) and Del Carpio (at Del Carpio Whips) are my best bets. What is your opinion? Who would you pick? Who am I missing?

I'd love your input and wisdom as I approach this (monumental!) purchase.

Thanks for your feedback,
B

What length are you thinking? For what it’s worth, I’ve always been in awe of Bernardo’s craftsmanship.

I just got a Raiders whip from Peter Jack (aka the Whip man). I'll post some pics in a bit but it is *gorgeous*. Highly recommend his work.

If you're looking for an 8ft, I made one a few weeks ago that could do with a new home.

I'm thinking 10ft. I've got a Todd's 10ft now, so that feels like the "right" length for me.

I'd LOVE to see it? I don't know that I explored Peter's work. Does he have a website?

WOW! Looks amazing, but I'm thinking a 10ft-er is for me.
Do you have a website? You work looks great!

Thanks,

Bart, that whip has your name on it! And it's already made - no wait time! A 10-foot whip might look great on your belt or for display, but if you plan to use it, 8-foot is the ideal length for cracking. Anything longer is very difficult to keep off the ground, and it wears you down faster than a lighter whip. Trust me, this is the way to go! :TOH:

I no longer have a website since I no longer take orders for whips. This is the first I've made in about three years and I only really made it for fun and to keep my skills honed.
If you're looking at DelCarpio and Paul Nolan, you can't go wrong with either!

Very nice! Glad to see you haven’t lost your touch! What’s the asking price, if you don’t mind me inquiring?

I guess I can ask, as long as I don’t mind not getting a reply... :-k

Sorry - I'm currently travelling and don't always have internet access. The whip is for sale for €550

Likewise, if you make a 10footer!

I’m unlikely to make a 10 ft as I don’t have any more hides and it is too expensive to order just one or two rather than a large batch. I do, however have a 10ft that I made acouple of years ago that I might be willing to part with. There should be a pic in an earlier thread.
