New Alden 405 arriving today

Post by pdraycott »

My new Alden 405’s should be arriving later. Only found 2 places in the U.K. that stock them.
Went for a size 8.5 U.K. as everything I read said size down half a size. Really hope they fit.
Will write a mini review once I have received them. Just wondering if it’s worth putting sole protectors on them from the start.

Received the aldens today. After first putting them on , I must say they are quite clever comfortable. Glad I went a half size down otherwise they would have been too big. Very noisy leather to start and the leather seems a bit harder around the ankle but it probably isnt..just feels like it. Most amount of money I’ve ever spent on a pair of boots so I hope they last a long time. Have a pair of the Wested Indy boots and I must say the Wested ones are a very good replica for how they look.
I would say if you are on the fence about getting a pair of Aldens then go for it.

How are they breaking in for you? I’ve had a pair for a year and a half now. Love them more everyday.

Worth getting metal heal and toe taps put on if you plan to wear every day on concrete/in urban areas. Especially the heal, which can wear down quickly.

I've been using plastic heel taps (don't want to sound like a tap dancer while I walk). They last about 6-12 months, then I replace.

What kind of toe taps do you use?

I am also curious about the heel/toe taps. I don't know how to search for them in my native tongue.

Can anyone point to a specific maker/product?

Cheers,
Bear :TOH:
