Steele and Jones standard horsehide wait begins.

Post by Jeremiah »

As the title says, a few years ago someone very generous on this forum gave me a raiders of the lost ark Steele and jones jacket. At the time the sleeves were too long but I kept and my wife Talored them to fit and I wear the jacket all the time now. I just can’t seem to recall who it was that gave me the jacket. If it was you will you please post here or pm me?

Thanks so much. I had thought it was Tibor for some reason but not sure.

I am ordering another one with Steele and jones in the future and if they could look up those measurements it would help me out a lot. Thanks.

Well. Thanks whoever you are.

Just put my deposit down for a standard horsehide LC with Steele and Jones. Looking forward to it. Just trying to finish up some measurements. That’s why I was looking for the benefactor. Would have helped nail down those. I decided to go with the LC distressed look. Will keep this thread updated.

This will be my first custom made Indiana Jones leather jacket.

Yikes. I can’t get any bites. What am I? Chopped liver?

Anyway. Would love to hear from anyone who owns the S&J standard horsehide. I already know about the first rate customer service from those guys. Been a pleasure so far to work with.

Congratulations....you won't be disappointed :TOH:

PS: I think now, your Raiders jacket is order #24...
I have pictures and notes from every jacket we did. And the look of it accomodates to that order. Cheers.-

I have one. Really like it and the leather is nice. It is not a heavy leather like other HH I have and is supple right out of the box. No stiffness at all.

Nice. Love to see a pic of yours.
I am told the hides are both veg tanned and chrome tanned which probably helps a lot with the softness. Also makes one tough hide.

So those that got the distressing to make it SA. Do you find you can still wear this to semi formal gatherings? I am trying to decide if I should go full SA with distressing or not. Any thoughts or opinions? This jacket will be more than just a costume piece.

Sorry Jeremiah, I’ve been a little swamped with end of year stuff and missed this. Yes that was a very early Steele and Jones, a bit of an experiment with them size wise. It was to see where the limits of a short jacket were for me and it would probably be in their records as the one with the shortest back length made from their early light weight cowhide for me. I currently have an absolutely great lamb Steele and Jones that I asked to be distressed. I’ve been wanting to put up a post but have been too buried to get to it. Maybe I’ll have some time over the holidays.

Thinking about your question about semi-formal gatherings, I went with “light distressing” and it came out beautifully. I personally like the contrast of nice clothes with an older looking vintage leather. In general, I don’t think the Raiders jacket needs a ton of distressing (like either TOD or LC) as most of the movie it’s in pretty good shape (until it gets mistreated in Cairo :anxious: ). Leather jackets and coats were used as traveling garments to protect from the elements so it suits. And Diego provides very tasteful, realistic wear so I think you’ll like it.

Thanks and thanks again for the jacket.

Here is me wearing it with my recently reblocked adventurebilt raiders legacy. Brian did a great job.

The jacket fits me better with sleeves altered but it still fits too loose on me for a true raiders fit. Glad to have it though. I wear it a lot.

Man, that looks great on you! It’s really broken in perfectly and totally works over a thick sweater. Fine hat too... I always admire a tight pinch.

Looks good. My concern with my Raiders was the length I still think it is a little short on me but other than that I love it. Diego tells me its a short jacket style and I'm not used to that so maybe, but I don't see me getting use to it. I have a LC that I should be getting any day now I had him make it a little longer in front and back and its a size bigger in chest so that I can wear layers underneath or a heavy sweatshirt like you sweater. Once I get it I will post pictures

I got their premium chocolate horse hide which is not real thick but not sure its thin either. It looks great got the pre destressed too and from pictures Diego sent me it looks like it came off Indy himself. They really do the best jackets I think.

23hq.com is an option I’ve been using recently. There’s also a thread on here somewhere that mentions it and other recent photo hosting options.

Looking forward to seeing it!

Posted a shot of my S&J LC horsehide from yesterday. It's really a cool jacket. Doesn't look right with all outfits as its on the baggier side, where I often wear more fitted clothes, but it certainly is awesome and was a great opportunity to wear with a sweater. No matter what, I still highly recommend this jacket.

Thanks Jeremiah.

This jacket is one of the most difficult I did.
Not because of the style, but for the sizing. This is 36 size jacket.

I've had to proportional decrease every single measurement, and adapt to orderer requests.
Isn't something easy, or fast to do.

And I think it looks perfectly LC.

Regards.-

Thanks. Guessing that 35 was equally as hard then. It looks like a LC jacket to me.

Your jacket looks amazing! Diego made me a LC in size 35, and i think he nailed it. It can't be easy to reduce the size of the film jacket, and things can be lost in translation so to speak. That was the concern i had when ordering my jackets from S&J ( or any vendor for that matter) being a very slim person. but I've been very pleased with the end product. Congrats on your jacket, enjoy it!

Thanks. Still awaiting it. Diego was making an adjustment to the sleeve length at my request.
Looking forward to trying it on for the first time.

I hope it ships out soon though.

Yes it’s the standard weight premium horsehide in chocolate. Feel and smell is wonderful. I work with leather and I once had a similar leather smell in some English bridal leather from England. Smell is usually associated with dyes and how the leather was tanned at the factory which can differ from place to place. It’s both chrome and veg tanned. Very strong and also has the water repellancy that chrome tanned brings so no panicking of it gets wet. Also easier to wipe clean should you spill your morning coffee on it as you read the paper and find the page with the hole that masala punched out.

I could not be more pleased.
