The SOC bash
I’m trying to give my HJ reboot an SOC bash but I’m having trouble giving it that mushroom shape. I tried the tutorials pinned in this thread but most of them are old links and do t work anymore.
Any advice?

Re: The SOC bash
Have you tried the trick using a rubber band or string?
You wet the area of hat above ribbon and then put a rubber band over it or tie some string around the circumference of crown. Let it dry. Just remember. Hats are dynamic unless you put it behind glass or shellac the heck out of it. The bash will change over time. Even if it’s a slight change.

The SOC bash
Good idea. I’ll try that. Thanks.
Does the hat need to be on a stretcher to keep it from collapsing?

Re: The SOC bash
The key with any distressing is to go slow. The movie hats look completely beaten up because they were. But the hats were only meant to last through the production. To recreate the look without causing actual damage to your hat will take time and patience.

Re: The SOC bash
Good advice. At the moment I’m just trying to achieve a bash that looks more like the kind that AdVintage does for his hats...
So good.

That’s not my hat. That’s advintage. I’ll post the results I’m having. The rubber band made a mark — I don’t think it’s permanent. But it did help with the mushroom shape. Still working on it.

Re: The SOC bash
So here's something fun...
Fedoraiders pointed out that my hat looks like it had shrunk. And he was right. So I sent it to HJ to be reblocked. And I figured while it's overseas maybe I could send it to Thomas at Advintage to see if he would put his SOC bash into it. He agreed and I had HJ send him the untrimmed, re-blocked hat. Now he's working on the bash.
So I pretty soon I will have an HJ Raiders reboot with Advintage's SOC bash. Fun combo.
