Got My First Wested!

Post by IndySmith-007 »

Hey guys,

Just got my first Wested in the mail yesterday. It’s a Last Crusade “Standard” in lamb skin. Just curious what tips you all have for breaking it in and caring for it? Any info about it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Take care of it??? It’s an Indy jacket, the point is to beat the heck out of it. Walk in the rain, carry firewood, carry things on shoulder straps. About the only thing I try to avoid is getting stains on it. It shouldn’t need any other care or treatment for years. :TOH:

Hahahaha!! Thank you for the advice. I was curious about this whole hot water treatment I’ve heard of for breaking one in. I’ve learned a lot about the rest of the Indy gear both through this site and just other research, but am new to the jacket. I paid $300 for this jacket, and so I am of course nervous about beating the @#$% out of it or something right off the bat hahaha. Plus, I live in San Diego, so the opportunities to get to wear it during the course of a year are few and far between, so I want to be sure to do it right. This will be most likely the last leather jacket I will ever have to buy.

Just get caught in a light rain shower and wear it around till it dries. It will take your shape. I would avoid hot water due to shrinkage. Just wear it as often as you can, and just be mindful that lambskin can puncture and tear a bit more easily than most other leathers. And yeah, don't spill stuff on it.

Just wear it a lot. Every day. If it rains, wear it in the rain.

To be really screen accurate, you could see if someone would drag you from/on a tank whilst wearing the jacket. Or if it was Raider’s, you could shoot it in the arm.

Think we’re supposed to be getting some rain here at some point this week. I will be sure to wear it when it does. Will probably spend some time on it this weekend.

Indy jackets (or any gear for that matter) are the opposite of normal clothing: you can't wait to abuse it a little.

Pouring rain today? Better take a walk!

Wore the jacket for a while last night just leaving and going out for a little bit, and just doing that it’s already rubbing off some of the shiny and newness. I plan to work on it a little bit over the weekend. Love the thing so far though!!
