Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
My wested Hero in NZ lamb weighs 1.1 kg (2.4 lbs). It’s a size 36 with 23.5 back length and sleeves.
Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
Thanks, sorry meant the new BK ones
Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
My BK weighs 956grams. Compared to the Wested which is 1165grams there's just over 200 grams of difference but you notice it. Both size 38's.CRB wrote:Is anyone able to weigh these new lamb jackets for me ? I may be tempted to et my 5th Relic Hunter
Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
Thanks for the nice review.
Regarding the color, I would like to say that we went for the color we see in the public stills and behind the scenes footage as thought that this would be less edited and therefore closer to the real thing.
Please take a look at this comparison.
Also, I hope we all agree that in a dimly lit room the jacket would appear darker than what it is in broad daylight.
Yet, in the idol grab scene the film jacket appear lighter than Wested's both the in the Flashed Light and Natural (indirect) daylight shots above.
With this opportunity, I would like to apologize to our friends who are waiting for their jackets. The new leathers are in production and we expect to receive them soon.
Kind regards,
AF

Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
Thanks for the comparison shots, Andy. IMO, the color you guys chose is a nice average of all the well-lit shots, and looks right in a half-lit room.
Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
Thanks for that - My size 40 lamb weighs 1.2Kg but that was from the initial first run that was a slightly thicker/heavier leather. Tempted to sell it and get an even lighter one for travel.Frederick wrote:My BK weighs 956grams. Compared to the Wested which is 1165grams there's just over 200 grams of difference but you notice it. Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
How'd that happen? My Wested Hero's a 42, while my BK's a 44, and the BK is STILL a tighter (read: better) fit than the Wested.Frederick wrote:My BK weighs 956grams. Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
Striated lamb is stretched, hence thinner, hence lighter.
Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
My jacket is striated lamb too. Andy's already confirmed that the original batch was a tad heavier.

Remember that the jacket hangs off the shoulders too so it adds about an inch.Blackadder wrote: Thanks , looks like I would need a custom , I need at least 27.5 back.
The jacket is a short style jacket, at 27.5 its going to cover your backend unless you're really tall. That's really long man.
I'm 6ft exactly and 23" hits my at the right spot for daily wear plus matching the film.

I am 6 3" got wested LC in size 44 which is 27.5 inch in back length, I could even use a half inch longer on that one.TheExit148 wrote:Remember that the jacket hangs off the shoulders too so it adds about an inch.Blackadder wrote: Thanks , looks like I would need a custom , I need at least 27.5 back.

Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
Yeah - my first BK was ordered using another Raiders jacket and my normal back length of 28 inches was way too long. My other BK orders were a 26.5 back and as long as the Wested 28 inch back jackets. I could have gotten away with a 26 inch back but wear modern jeans that sit lower.

Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
I'm 191 cm (6ft 3in) tall and my Wested Hero is 24,5in long in the back and it is perfect length for Raiders jacket.
Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
I'm 6 ft even and my Kelso has a 25.5" back length. [shrugs] It isn't about height - it's about how much of that height is torso.

Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
For me that is how they compared. For my Wested Hero, I ordered an inch shorter (26) in the sleeve and 1 1/2 inch shorter in the back.Blackadder wrote:So Kelsos 26.5 inch is westeds 28 inch, wow.
The BK and Wested Hero do not fit like an OTR Wested.

Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
If its not a problem, could you measure the length of BK 26.5 back in cm ? From the collar edge to the bottom ? My wested is nearly 70 cm in the back.Glenville86 wrote:For me that is how they compared. Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
BK is around 68cm. My Wested in a 28 inch back is around 69.5cm. So close, you would have to measure to see the difference.Blackadder wrote:If its not a problem, could you measure the length of BK 26.5 back in cm ? From the collar edge to the bottom ? Cairo/hero model. Though I'm no jacket expert I believe the rounded collar is the main difference.TheExit148 wrote:This looks really good! Is this the Cairo version or Hawaii?

Awesome fit, great hat too btw! Sporting the gear well... has the jacket had any subsequent treatment since the original purchase?

Nice jacket, Screencapped.
Finally got a new photo-hosting service. It is called cubeupload if anyone still needs one. Totally free and easy to use. Anyway, here are the photos of my Kelso Relic Hunter that I posted a while back but photobucket cut the link to them.

I'm afraid after multiple knee surgeries and a looming back surgery I'd need a stuntman for any scene that called for Indy to walk.

Thanks - see it as an option and was wondering if it was thin or regular weight.CRB wrote:I have a one off special made for me in thin brown cowhide. It's fantastic.
Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
About the same as my lamb weight I'd say but tougher. I have a first run lamb that was heavier than the repeat runs.

Random question: do we know what may have been written / stamped /typed onto any of the screen used Raiders jacket Bermans' tags (see LC tweed suit tag reference below)

Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
Well I couldn't stay well enough away, and decided to get another goatskin relic hunter. I really loved the one I bought back in 2016 (as seen on pages 16 and 17), but it was just too small. I haven't stopped thinking about it though, and decided it was time to get an outdoor use jacket for actual 'adventuring' (i.e. camping, fighting nazis, taking middle schoolers on field trips, etc.). Since I already have a screen accurate jacket with my S&J, I went with goatskin again. Any thoughts on the current turn-around time? And has anyone else bought one in goat recently?

Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
Okay. So I’ve finally decided to get a Relic Hunter (Cairo collar, striated lamb, authentic brown) and I need help on sizing. I've learned a lot from this forum as I’ve gone from magnoli to wested to wested (again), and I really want to dial in this new jacket. I understand the Bk is a step up and I want to get it right. Any advice or help would be much appreciated.
I’m 5’6”, 36 chest, 16” shoulders, and 18" pit-to-pit. Andy sent me the measurements for a 36R, which I think would work for me.
36R:
pit to pit 20.5
shoulders 18.5
back 22
sleeve 24.5
I currently wear a Wested Hero size 36, with 23.5” sleeves and 23.5” back. The shoulders are 19.5" and pit to pit is 19". After wearing this jacket for 4 months I feel like the shoulder overhang is a bit too much and the back length could be even shorter. So I'm thinking that the BK 36R standard measurements without any changes might work out. Please check my thought process:
- My shoulders are 16" so the BK overhang would be 1.25" on either side vs my Wested which is 1.75" on either side. So that's 1/2" shorter so there's still overhang just not as much.
- The sleeves of the BK would be 1" longer than my Wested, but given the smaller shoulder overhang, the net difference would be that the sleeves would be 1/2" shorter. If that ended up being a problem, I could always have the sleeves shortened by my tailor.
- The back length of my Wested is 23.5" but it feels like there's still room to go shorter, so maybe the BK 22" is closer to being SA.
I've asked Andy what the measurements for the 38R are just for comparison but he hasn't responded. I sent a second email and he still hasn't responded so I figure maybe he's on vacation. I don't want to send him a million emails so I'm hoping you guys can help me dial it in. (I'll PM him as well on COW).
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions. Here are a couple of pics of me wearing my wested for reference:

Those measurements look good for you, but I would increase the back length to 23 inches. Otherwise, you should be good to go.

Re: Bill Kelso's Relic Hunter
So what would you do if you wanted a non-lamb or goat Relic Hunter?
1) order a chromium-tanned Cowhide Dark Seal from the sort of grainy most recent batch (illustrated below)
or
2) wait for vegetable-tanned Horsehide Liberty Seal to be restocked in two or three months
