LOL! Yep, been doing that myself for years.....less the holes in the sweatband.
It's the classic 'what was once old is now new again' situation. Stetson offered this for years, and even punched designs in the felt in super fine holes for ventilation in their summer felt collections.

Bob @ Black Sheep hatworks has also been doing this on his summer felts. He's also got the punch for the top of the crown. Wellema sure does have some sharp looking lids.

A hole at the top? At least I don't have to worry about the side of the crown leaking when it rains, but I'd hate to have one on with THAT hole!

Agreed, if you are that worried about the heat, wear a straw at that point. A felt hat with a hole in the top of the crown is like a submarine with screen doors.
