The wet hat

I hear what your saying John. When i took this pic the hat had been soaked through and the weight of the water kinda smooshed it. I mean after it dried it tapered a bit and lost some brim break.

Got caught in tonights torrential down pour in VA.

This is a Akubra Adventurer, 1 year old almost to the day.






And this is the hat after 4 hours of drying. 1 on my head and 3 hung up

It still looks like the creases got pushed around and sunk in too much. A little tweaking and I think that tapper wouldn't be there but the only way to be sure is to slip it in the original block. Like I stated I have hat lots of hats that really didn't tapper but appeared to.

Here there are a few drops on my Steele & Jones. After returning, just pushed out the bashing, and let it dry with air...no heat at all, and then hat returned perfectly to it's original shape...



...just to get completely wet that same day in another excursion...Same procedure, and then hat ready for more adventures...

Actually was wearing my S&J 35 when I was out fishing a few months back. Walked over 2 miles in the pouring rain. I did forget to pop the bash out, but it dried just fine. Getting some serious character at this point. Will most likely be going on a horse pack trip in Montana next year. Will be 7 days, 6 nights, and I plan to carry it with me then too.

haha, I got my AB beaver wet on saturday after going to the beach with my son, the waves splashed and got the top of the brim wet and covered with some sand, didn't worry too much but I still had my doubts because of the salt; I wasn't expecting to get it wet I didn't think the waves would splash that much, but i'm somewhat glad it happened since I managed to give a better SA swoop to the brim, it looked great covered with the sand, to bad I just saw this thread till today otherwise I would of had posted some pics, If it happens again i'll certainly will.

Careful with that salt though. Heard a story of a guy who went swimming in the ocean with it on. Really messed up his hat.

So the part where Indy jumps off the streamliner into the sea must have made that hat in LC look and do some funny things.

Living in the desert I don't get many opportunities to contribute to this thread. Steady downpour for my Valentine's Day dinner out with my Bride. Walking from the car to the restaurant.

My hat was noticeably heavier with all the water. Once it dries completely it'll be time to re-treat it with water repellent.

Nice! Do people panic when it rains there? When we get snow it's no big deal but a heavy downpour will freak people out and they instantly drive like it's the end of the world. We get most of our moisture from snow. I just consider it to be even better hat weather.

It's worse than snow in the South. People do not know what to do with themselves. And because it rains so infrequently, there isn't very good infrastructure so if it's anything more than a drizzle streets flood making matters worse. And the roads have an accumulation of tire rubber, oil, etc. so as soon as they get wet they get slick.

February and March are the rainy months. By the time this front moves through it will have rained every day for a over a week. That's pretty rare, usually it's a day or two, then back to sun.

On the upside, I got to run in the rain Tuesday morning, splashing through puddles and everything. A rare novelty that helped the miles go by so much quicker.

Sorry I don't have any pictures, but my Alkubra Fed IV Deluxe was in quite the rainstorm last week. When I got to work and removed the hat, it was covered in droplets but was not soaked through at all. I was very impressed by this. Sure, I was not submerged, but for a "typical" thunderstorm it held up well. A few hours later when I checked on it, it was completely dry. Great job, Alkubra!
