I am sure most of you here have seen this video but my question has to do with the hat. The behavior and look of the thing. While not very SA looking anymore the hat has me captivated. It behaves unlike any hat I have ever seen. Almost like its foam and not felt.
Any info on it?
What is this hat made of?

That is a Beaver Adventurebilt Deluxe made by Marc Kitter. When Mythbusters did their Indiana Jones episode (Busters of the Lost Myth), Adam was decked out in full Indy gear, some (all?) of which was second-hand, including the beaver ABD. You can tell it was an older one because it had the Staff of Ra headpiece liner. Well, I guess Marc Kitter saw the hat and contacted Adam. Kitter said the hat was from an old block and that he'd be happy to make Adam a new, more accurate one in exchange for the old one. Adam took him up on the offer. You can see that this is the newer hat as it has the pyramid logo in the liner. It's not in the video below, but Adam has said that it is beaver, and I'd imagine Kitter would send his top-of-the-line in this case, so I don't doubt that it's a beaver hat. (Also, a quick look at the Adventurebilt Deluxe website shows that they don't even offer a rabbit felt hat, or at least don't do so any longer.) I don't know where Kitter sources his felt, though I think maybe I've heard Portugal(????). I'm sure there is someone on here that will know. Aside from the type of felt used, perhaps the hat behaves the way it does because it's been so beaten over the years? Adam Savage admits in the video he's been really hard on it.
Short article that details this along with a video of Savage talking about the hat as an intro to a longer speech. http://mentalfloss.com/article/30766/ad ... -jones-hat" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hmmm. Yeah I have read that account but this episode was filmed before that myth busters Indiana jones ones I think. I did not know this was the Adventurebilt deluxe Marc had traded him for the signed one.
Interesting.
Anyway no doubt it's beaver but man it still looks like rubber hat ha. Guess I need to start getting more rough with my AB.
Thanks.
Ok here is a link explaining it too.

Did I say beaver felt? I meant beaver leather.
