Replacing My Wested Raiders D Rings with Buckles
I'm trying to replace my Wested Raiders jacket's D Rings with black buckles. I just bought 4 metal loops from here: http://www.strapworks.com/Metal_Loops_p/ml.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Would I be able to replace the d rings with those? I also emailed Make It Jones about order replacement Raiders buckles.

It's easy to do you just twist the open end a fraction of an inch and slip it in to the loop.
D-Rings are screen accurate for LC and CS, Raiders has been debated round the houses but a narrow black metal tri-glide seems to be the preferred option these days. Though they are quite hard to find. Wested puts on a moveable metal (not sure if it is silver coloured or brass coloured) tri-glide on the hero now.
The rectangular loops are a option too.
ToD are those little 2 prong claw buckles, also a bit hard to find.

Re: Replacing My Wested Raiders D Rings with Buckles
I wanted to replace the super sharp cornered buckles that came on a USW Legend jacket. My first thought was MKVII strap buckles, but that would have necessitated unstitching and resewing the jacket straps and didn't want to get into that. I found replacement buckles with the middle section open to allow fitting without the sewing. Here's the thread where I discussed them in detail. http://indygear.com/cow/viewtopic.php?f ... lit=buckle" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Original buckle on top, strap buckle in the middle, replacement buckle on the bottom.

Indiana Jeff

The reason I went with D rings on mine is because I read the square buckles are murder on couches and car seats and such. Is this still the case?

The only buckles that have caused problems like that are the ones used by USW in recent years, particularly on the Legend line of jackets.

Re: Replacing My Wested Raiders D Rings with Buckles
I replaced one set of US Wings buckles, not sure which series, but definately not Signature series. My reason was that the straps were so high on my body that, while sitting, the corner of the buckles dug into my bottom ribs. I haven't tested the d-rings since getting them done (it's too hot to wear leather right now).
Otherwise, I have found square buckles to be my preferred hardware on. Around 6 frequently worn jackets never did any damage, to my self or anything else. So, my guess would be that the placement and exact design of the buckles has a lot to do with the issues people have had.

Agreed here. I'm one of those 'poor unfortunate souls' who actually punched a hole in the side of my car seat with one of those dang Legend buckles. I knew better, and had an extra set of rectangular buckles in the drawer to change them out too, but waited too long before tearing the seat up.Indiana Jeff wrote:The only buckles that have caused problems like that are the ones used by USW in recent years, particularly on the Legend line of jackets.

Jeff, where did you get that new buckle? Talking about the bottom one that is black with the gap in the center. I've been looking for something just like that.Indiana Jeff wrote:I wanted to replace the super sharp cornered buckles that came on a USW Legend jacket. That makes sense. I had stumbled across the buckle on the UK eBay, but after I bought them was not able to find them again. Now we know.
