Curious about the design....

Post by Indianafred »

I watched "band of brothers" the other night, and noticed that some of the american officers were wearing leather jackets very similar to the indy wested jackets.
Collar size,pockets....even the color matched very well.
Did the design of the jacket originated from that kind of WWII officers jacket?
And wasnt WESTED involved in the clothing production of that series?

I believe all the jackets were Wested jackets, if memory serves me right.
The jackets for BOB were not made by Wested. They were made by
Real McCoys of New Zealand.

They made all the A-2's (The jacket in question here), the B-3 that
Schwimmer wore in the scene where he was fooled into cutting the fence,
and even the B-6's that the pilots wore in the planes that delivered the
men for the invasion of Normandy.

As a matter of fact, if you go to the Real McCoys website, and get
Paddy's email address (she is the one you talk to on the phone and in
all the emails) you can get actual prop jackets that were used in the
movie if they have any left.

There is a guy over on the VintageLeather JacketsII forum that just bought a BOB B-6
from RMNZ. Instead of the side zippers, it has the side straps, as this is
the earlier version of the B-6's.

Wested did not make the leather jackets for this mini-series. I think
you may be thinking of the movie Memphis Belle. Wested made the
jackets for that movie.

Wested DID make the Memphis Belle jackets, but I could swear Peter told us of a delay in our jacket deliveries due to the production of jackets for the Band of Brothers movie. Maybe they were 'pick up' jackets during the production. Hopefully he'll 'step in' and give us the right info on that. It's been to long.... :? Regards. Michaelson

You can also check out this one too. The same bunch of guys from the
other forum are also on this one too: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TheClassic20th/

This forum is for all kinds of jackets, from all times, not just the WWII
jackets like on the VintageLeather JacketsII forum.

You will find other makers like RMNZ, Aero, Lost Worlds, Eastman, and our
own FlightSuits in the discussions.

According to RMNZ, they were the sole supplier of leather jackets to the
mini-series.

As a matter of fact, you can see the credit at the end of the movie for
it, and there are people who post to the other forums that actually own
prop jackets that were sold by some of the "extras" from the mini-series.

Peter may have made some of the cloth clothing perhaps, as RMNZ deals
mostly in leather products.

Perhaps you are thinking of 'Saving private Ryan'? 'Band of Brothers' was the TV-series made later by Tom Hanks and Steven Speilberg as producers. 'Saving private Ryan' was the movie made back in 1998 with Tom Hanks acting in it. Wested have it on their site saying that they made "Various costumes and accessories". Like mentioned, we'll see what he'll have to say. (Peter)

I think you're absolutely right. To many movies were made at the same time, and I'm hardly keeping up with OUR trilogy anymore. Sheesh! Regards. Michaelson

If I recall, I believe if you would be able to contact _ you may well find that he did have or still does have a Band of Brothers jacket that he posted a picture of here at one time. I'm really, ALMOST pretty sure he did, ...er, in fact I'd be willing to bet... nevermind. ;)

I believe Flathead is correct. These are the pix that _ posted; one of which is, I believe, an actual prop A-2 jacket worn by Nixon that was sold by RMNZ and the other is obviously a screen grab from Band Of Brothers.
