Stretching a gun belt- help!

Post by captblitzdawg »

I got a gun belt a month or two ago. Beautiful, handcrafted with the whip holster riveted on just like in Raiders. Problem is, the belt is just too short! I know leather can stretch. What's the best way to do it? Soak it and pull on it? Wrap it tightly around something and keep adjusting as it gives? How much stretch can I get out of the overall length of a belt? Half an inch, two, three inches?

Sounds like a daunting task that risks damaging or deforming the belt.

If you need that much length that you're considering stretching it, and the belt is as nice as you described, you may just be better off selling it and getting another in your size.

My thoughts as well. When I distressed my Todd's belt it did stretch a tad, just enough to be noticeable but not enough to make it even half a size bigger. Heck it might not have even technically stretched, it just lost its firmness if you will and became far more pliable.

At best maybe you could get 1/2" more length. But I would worry you'll do more damage than the benefit of the extra length would provide. Think of it in terms of shoes. Shoe leather is significantly thinner than belt leather and whereas shoes will stretch a bit over time as they break in, you can't get a whole shoe size up.
