Forum has been dead lately...New Topic time!!!

Post by Blake Bruning »

So, what whips are you planing on buying this year? Or what whips did you just purchase?

I got quite a list already...I am getting a couple matched sets of nylon Stock whips from Adam Winrich, a couple sets of wippa lace stockwhips from Simon Martin, a matched ser of Kangaroo Stockwhips from Bernie at E.M. Brand, I have a matched set of nylon stockwhips from Russel Shultz in the mail and I have a 10' Raiders from Paul Nolan in the works as well. I also plan on making a Black 13' bullwhip for myself with aargentine silver ferrule that has my logo on it.

So....what do you guys have planned?

Last year I bought a jacket from Todd's to supplement my US Wings steerhide Legend (wanted something a bit lighter and more accurate), and a bag/strap from Todd as well. And a Penman in dark moss. I'm not really a cosplayer, but I do enjoy doing Halloween costumes. I tend to incorporate Indy-inspired attire into my daily dress; usually some 404s, jeans, button down shirt, and leather jacket. Unless I wear a hat, no one knows.

I've ordered the headpiece challenge coin and plan on getting a whip from Magnoli or Todd so I can someday do a Halloween Indy costume justice.

I just finished a 10' Last Crusade like whip. My next purchase will be the leather for a KOTCS 10'. Think I'll get a whiskey and a brandy hide, do the innards with brandy, the overlay in whiskey, and then the knots in brandy.

Just getting back to making and using whips after a long absence... Chronic tendonitis in my right elbow shut me down for more than 9 solid months!!!

I'm working on a set of matched, lighter-weight 5' whips to do 2-handed work (paracord)... A lighter 7' whip to replace one that ended up with the good Mr. DeLongis (Dacron), and trying to make a monster,10', 4-belly, 26-plait Dacron 'Indy' style to replace my ratty paracord ones...

There's a whole list of designs I worked out during my time off that i'm aching to make reality! I've had a wood lathe sitting in my garage for 2 years and still haven't made a single Florida Cow whip...

Also playing with the idea of buying a nice 10' roohide whip, feel guilty for not having one!!! I know David Morgan co. still makes a solid product, but with Mr. Morgan gone I may be looking for a newer maker... Probably our good buddy Paul Nolan.

Sheesh. This forum does seem to be dead.
*Sigh* It's a long way to 2019. And Tipperary, apparently.

Personally, I think that this portion of the forum is dead a lot of the time because most of the fans here are Indy fans and not whipcrackers. There's a few of us here, but for the majority it's just another piece of gear to complete the outfit. This is evidenced by the amount of members ordering budget whips, mainly because it's needed for the Indy costume, but they're really not planning on cracking it all that much. And this one whip is more than likely going to be the only whip they own. Which is all fine, I really only visit the bullwhip, jacket and bazaar on here - only rarely do I look anywhere else. So there it is, I'm not bashing anyone just stating why I feel this portion of the forum doesn't receive as many posts as some of the others...

I checked with Todd's and they said restock on bullwhips in about 5 weeks or so. I'm planning to order their 8-footer. I would love to have a "real" one someday. But it will have to wait until I'm caught up on other items.
