Smith and Wesson Close Enough for under $60?

Post by giantthugee86 »

I can't find the HFC HG-131 available anywhere online, otherwise I would get that.

I am in the same boat as you, apparently. It seems many of the replicas, airsofts, etc. could cost as much as a real weapon! I had a cardstock model of a Webley a few years ago. I might just build another and find new ways to strengthen and reinforce it to make it more permanent and durable. I primarily cosplay at children's and comics events so "close enough" is usually good for me.

The HFC HG-131 replicas come up for auction from time to time. Generally more than $60, though I've seen them go for around $70 so if you can squeeze a few more dollars out of your budget.

Western Stage Props has a resin Indy S&W for $79.95. http://www.westernstageprops.com/indian ... p/ijg2.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They also carry a resin .38 S&W for $49.95. It's the same basic silhouette, but a smaller frame. The HFC is a .38 model so if you were interested in that gun as a close enough, the WSP might work just fine for you. http://www.westernstageprops.com/sandw- ... p/pp38.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks, Indiana Jeff! That might work! Especially if these be painted/detailed, and I can find a ring to attach to the base of the grip.

If you go with with the .38 model, it's really easy to paint the grips brown, the medallions silver or gold, and add a lanyard ring. The lanyard rings can be readily found online or at gun shops if you have any close to you.

I can buy all the guns (even blank firing ones) on that website except the ones that say Indiana Jones as they're the only ones that are denoted as restricted for Californians. :lol:

I bit late to be updating, but I finally found this picture comparing the size of the .38 (K frame) with the .455 (N frame).

I own a real Model 10, and although a smidge loose, it fills a Todds Raiders holster rather nicely. I wouldn't trust the fit for real world use, for the real gun, but as costume piece, it's great.

Anyone familiar with this model?

Does it fit a Raiders style holster?

Plenty of members have gone with that .357 model. The biggest factor is the barrel length. Longer than 4" will be too long for the standard ROLA holster. That handle might be a little big for the flap, but should still work as a close enough option.

That's exactly what I have. It doesn't fit in the standard Raiders holster.
