Wested Temple of doom 1:1 HF size****NOW DISTRESSED!!

Post by Holt »

Hey guys.

I am very happy man today. I just got my wested replica of the temple of doom jacket from a good friend of mine here. :TOH: I think it's one of the early models from right after they got the original jacket from Noel Howard. I can tell by the hardware the jacket has. Peter does not source this anymore.

It's a HF 1:1 size, which equals a 42 and it's a PERFECT fit. Well, for temple of doom at least. I can wear my thick cardigan under it but the arms tightens up just a tiny wee bit. But thats to be expected with this jacket. It's the most fitting jacket of the 3.... no 4. there was a fourth?... Jeez....keep on forgetting.

Allthough I am strictly a LC man I do have some love left over for temple of doom . This temple jacket is something I allways wanted from the start, ever since I saw the original in the collection of Noel Howard. The temple jacket was allways such a very mysterious jacket. And boy is it just that. Mysterious!

At first glance I noticed the vents. They are perfect. Absolutley perfect! It looks EXACTLY like we see on the real jacket.

Second the double claws solide buckle. Perfect!

third, was the narrow stormflap. They nailed it. Also, a side note, on the LC and Raiders jacket the stormflap has two pieces of leather stithed on top of eachother. On the temple the stormflap is a one piece folded over and stitched. Again, they nailed it!

The flat collar and stormflap. Yup, nailed it.

The correct hardware. Zipper, press studs and buckles. All is there.

The 'parachute' lining with the quirky inside gussets. Nailed it!!!

The pointier pockets with slight scallop and correct placement. Nailed it.

The lower yoke seam. Nailed it. (which is even lower then the Last crusade).

The super slim stitch running down on the sides of the backpanel. Nailed it.

And finally, the leather. It's awesome! Thin dark brown lambskin. Replicates the exact same look, drape, and I guess feel. I'm happy it is in dark lambskin as I think there is no other leather that could replicate the look so good.

Man!....Having such a dead on replica it really playes a trick on my mind. It looks and moves exactly the same as the real one does. All little movement details are there. Can't wait to show this soon.

I can just hear Indy in my head going ''GOOD''!!! after Willie says ''and I hate you''

I washed the jacket to harden the leather alittle and to get more character. She is drying at the moment so pictures will come very soon!

I also have another very cool thing that I will showcase in the gear section. Stay tuned.

Looking forward to your pics! I've been eyeing a TOD in that skin, but have been hesitant to order one without seeing very many pictures or reviews on it. What do you think of the durability of dark brown lamb vs authentic brown lamb?

Thanks guys!

It's acutally not THAT much thinner from authentic lamb. You will notice a difference between the two yes, but this lamb does not not feel week. Especially not after I have bloated and hardend the skin a bit by giving it a ice cold shower.

I have a early version of Todds raiders jacet in the ultra thin lamsbkin. Which is much thinner then the wested thin lamb and has held up great for the last 10 years.

Pictures soon.

So here are some quick photos I took to show the fit and compare the details of the original.

It's easy to tell that the cut of this jacket is exactly the same as the original on Fords back. :D

EDIT

Like I said, it playes a trick on my head. :-s

And I know.. anoying backround... but hey, It's dark outside so my basement will have to do.

Here we go. Outside pictures!

I cannot stress enuff how insane this jacket is. My mind says an original but the tag says Wested. So I guess there's my reality check!

Just check out that leather!! What leather could replicate this look better? I have no idea.

This is a jacket that will never see the Bazaar section. Ever! This one is mine

You're a lucky man Holt. I love that pattern - the most accurate of all Westeds. If I were to get another I'd want one of these. What's the back length?

I say no to distressing it. ;)

Thanks man!

It's such a cool thing owning a 1:1 Harrison Ford size. It makes all the difference.

Last year I was in contact with wested and we talked about making one in goatskin but now that I have this jacket in dark lambskin I am glad I didn't go that route. no other leather than lambskin can replicate this look and I realize now why it looks so awesome on screen.

I think goat/cow would make this look stiff (?) And the sleeves would not replicate that famous look. The temple has to have that awesome drape of the lamb. no? Yes! :D \:D/

Oh, sorry, I'm rambling....

the back is 26''

Definitely the most accurate jacket Wested offers.
Congrats on your new acquisition.

Not exactly. It depends on the type of tanning the skins have.

looking forward to that!

When you order, remember to ask for the correct vent construction as the later temple models from wested has changed over the years. Hence why I am so happy with this jacket and its details.

You deserve this jacket, my friend - after all the hard miles you have put into this hobby.

I love the way some of the wrinkles are the same on your jacket and the NH. There's a moribund Indy website that might have us believe that they are the very same jacket. :anxious:

I know, but I feel like with Wested it's a roll of the dice. For instance, why did the bottom configuration of the side vents change? They had all the details right just after these were announced for the first time, but as time moved on, the design seemed to deviate a bit.

Anyway, you've got yourself a winner there.

Yes, it's true. You are right. I guess, change of staff/cutters/machinists play a big part in how much attention is payed to the details. We are now in 2016 and the TofD pattern came out in 2008. Much can happen in those 8 years.

I know this is one of the very very early jackets from the pattern. That is because of the details for one, but the hardware. especially the pocket snaps.

As a side note, I cannot stress enuff how awesome this leather is. Been wearing it non stop. Gave it an icecold shower when I got it and I let it dry on my frame. It really brought out the character. Also weather is changing and its becoming hotter outside. It really changes the skin. It has tuffend up and feels more jerky like. It's awesome stuff. It's very tofd.

I AM ABSOLUTLEY BLOWN AWAY. I OWN THE TEMPLE JACKET!!!!

Yes, I finally distressed the jacket and you can probably tell my excitement. I'm serious tho, this jacket plays such a trick on my mind it's not even funny.

The undertones are alsmot EXACTLY the same as the hero.

I am so glad I did this. It deserves to be distressed as it really brings out the DOOM in the jacket.

I have tried to match it as close as possible looking at screen caps.

- The complete worn down collar.
- The worn down stormflap, especially at the bottom.
- Screen accurate distressing detailing.
- Deep scuffs on the shoulders.
- The stitching coming loose on the collar tips.
- The ''Tiger claw'' scratch at the top right side on the back panel.

I'm not really one for distressing, that it's better to just wear the gear until it breaks in on you. That said, your work looks ridiculously spot on. If I didn't know better, I'd assume you've had some helluva adventures in your life. You have a really amazing jacket there my friend!
