Streets of cairo knot distance
Hey everyone i'm making a streets of cairo bullwhip and I just needed to know what the distance is between the heel knot and the transition knot
Re: Streets of cairo knot distance
The distance between knots would depend on the size of the turkshead and ringknot. But to get the look you're after the ringknot should be placed just after the 8" spike foundation. Hats what makes the handle look longer than it actually is.

Thank you for answering my question Tyrloch
That has been very helpful to my project

I'm not arguing that whip wasn't screen used, but I don't believe that it was the Streets of Cairo whip. Walt's sketch shows that the wrist loop is 5.8", SoC wrist loop looks much longer. Only my opinion though, so feel free to disagree...

Oh, I don't think it was the SOC whip by any means. The SOC looked like a much higher mileage whip. I'd guess it was the Imam whip given its condition and the hanger on the wrist loop.Tyrloch wrote:I'm not arguing that whip wasn't screen used, but I don't believe that it was the Streets of Cairo whip. What I was getting at is - to me, a Morgan Raiders is a Morgan Raiders. Anything beyond overall length and color variation is splitting hairs IMO.
Re: Streets of cairo knot distance
Oh I agree! Funny how some of us split hairs over whips specs, and for others it's jacket specs. For me the jacket just needs to be close enough and fit well, but I go a bit nutty over the size of the turkshead and ringknot placement on my whips!! I don't think. Morgan ever gave any thought as to the exact distance from the butt that he placed his ringknots: I think he just put them where he put them...

Re: Streets of cairo knot distance
Well, the Raiders whip ringknot was spec'd more or less at the end of the 8 inch spike. It was one of a few things that was changed as DM continued to improve on the design.Tyrloch wrote:I don't think. Re: Streets of cairo knot distance
If he was continuing to improve the design, then as time went on and the ringknot got lower, and the thong got thicker and heavier, these were improvements to the design?

Following that logic: Stenhouse who was once the student, and Morgan was the master, then Stenhouse is now the master. That dude's whips were thiiiick!! Should we now refer to them as Obi Wan Morgan and Darth Stenhouse? Just a thought...

Ha! Not sure. But I think as long as DM's family, et al has been continuing the craft, it's safe to say that strongest with the Morgan bloodline The Force still is.Tyrloch wrote:Following that logic: Stenhouse who was once the student, and Morgan was the master, then Stenhouse is now the master.
