Gear item often overlooked..
The web belt.
This is one of those items that really completes the look to me. If you are into colors like me you know what I am talking about.
Here are the correct belts. IMO.
The two without buckles are Temple of doom. The temple belt is not brown like Raiders as many think. It actually is a lighter greyish khaki not Raiders brown.
In the scenes we see the belt, Indy is usually wet or under darker lighting and the belt color is affected by that which makes it look darker and more brown.
Also seen is 1 brown raiders shown and the rest is LC. In LC there are two khaki belt versions. One lighter and one darker khaki. (which is on the far left)
here shown in different order

Nice comparison, Holt!
I prefer Raiders brown not only because it's from the IJ installment I'm partial to, but because it's not a standard web belt color. The brown allows the (as you said) oft-overlooked accessory to distinguish itself with the rest of the ensemble.
I can't find any documentation that brown trouser belts were ever military issued. Has anyone researched anything different?

I haven't found any....but to be fair, almost nothing that Indy wears is military issue, just military inspired. So the brown belt makes sense to me.

Oh wow, great info on the temple belt. I have the wrong belt then as I have the dark brown for my ToD gear. The dark khaki LC is very close to the temple it looks like.

'Back in the beginning', all we had was a ticket to go see the films, and little to no paper material to look at to figure out what the gear was.
For YEARS 'we' (meaning me) thought the belt was black, and the military buckle silver, and that's what I bought.
I still have that buckle, and it's the only one I wear when I'm wearing a military belt. Belts have come and gone, but the buckle is still going strong.
Yep, totally wrong, but it's the oldest item I have and has the most history with me in this particular hobby....and I still HAVE it after 35 years.

Re: Gear item often overlooked..
Aren't there a one or two shots where the buckle is in fact silver for those scenes?
I've got the dark brown one myself. Took some Rit dye to get the job done

The brass buckle was so artificially distressed it looked silver in the shots. This was revealed in later screen shots and discussions with the prop department at Paramount.
