Greetings/dvd question

Post by waco13 »

Howdy, I'm a newbie whip cracker from Texas who's living in Virginia at present. Just got my first whip, a nylon 8 footer from westernstageprops, and am really excited to learn.

The overhead, cattleman, and coachman cracks came real easy, but I'm having a heck of a time getting a crack out of the flick type movements ... if anyone has any pointers.

Also if anyone has any recommendations for instructional DVDs I'd love to hear them.

I'm excited to have found the forum & thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I think there's a few on youtube that are pretty good.

This is a member here who has taken time to make a few instructional videos.

Then there's this DVD set by Anthony De Longis.

Both of those sources are great for improving your whip skills.

No problem and welcome to the forum.

FYI - before you go cracking your whip just anywhere, make sure and check with the authorities. Normally, a public park etc isn't a big deal but you never know. If it's your backyard you're fine.

Sometimes the crack has been mistaken for gunfire, sometimes people get weird about a bullwhip, sometimes people think it's a "lethal" weapon.

So just be aware and keep a level head. You should be fine though.

Those flicks continue to elude me, even after years of trying. I mostly get them accidentally.

As for the local authorities, I agree about checking. I asked at my local police station, which happened to be one the same land as the local park. They still cruise by when I start up. Also, I asked my neighbors if they were OK with it, and if there were times that would be bad. Caution and courtesy go a long way.
