Homemade Whip Keeper

Hi Guys,

After reviewing the DVD extras on props, I took an old leather belt and some brass snaps to replicate Indy's whip keeper:

Nice job on the keeper.

Note that these style keepers don't actually work very well. For the movies, they used extra ties to keep the whip coiled. Otherwise the weight of the handle pulls the whip out of it's tight coil.

A double wrap keeper isn't SA, but is functional for real world use.

IMO the double wrap keeper is a necessary departure from screen accuracy be it for cosplay or practical application. The compromise is that most vendors design 'em as close to SA as possible.

Thanks, Cajunkraut! The screenshot is from the DVD extras, and this particular shot is from KOTCS. The prop manager said they had some props from the vault to work with, including a whip keeper. The picture is of a movie crew member holding the whip and whip keeper on the set. I had previously made one before by looking at the offerings from Todd's and after seeing the DVD bonus material I noticed that the snaps are put in a different place than the Todd's.

My whip does easily fall down in this keeper, yet if I strap the handle of the whip at the top it holds it secure. Not SA though, but you can easily have access to the handle and and pull the whip holder open in one movement.
