Advintage SOC Raiders Fedora

Post by cropdustdair »

I'm in the process of ordering the Raiders SOC fedora from adVintage.
http://www.advintagefedora.de/shop/prod ... dora1.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Anyone here ever buy one from them? I was wondering if anyone could give me their professional opinion on it? By the looks of it as well as the description, it looks to be a really great SOC Raiders fedora. Accurate on all counts. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Picture looks good but will it look like this when you put it on? That is a good question. I don't think they ship their hats open crowned if I remember correctly. I also see they only offer this in beaver now. A year ago I seem to recall you could get both rabbit or beaver for this one.

Yeah...those shots are great and they certainly have the bash down here, but..... I truly hope it's a good one! Always good to see other providers come up with a truly good looking repro of an 'Indy hat,' especially the coolest of all 'Indy Hats -- SOC!' This will be fun and interesting to see. W>

From the description, it looks to be 100% beaver, the materials also appear to be quality. They mention contacting them as to your requests. I'd send them an email to see if what you want is possible, and if it is, I would not hesitate.

Maybe they could send you photos of orders they have made?

There are a number of threads for advintage hats scattered about. On the whole they have received positive reviews.

I just got my new delivery from FEPSA today and all fedoras are now also available in 100% rabbit. Super soft and the colour is just the real deal.

Unfortunately I can only post a pic of the hatbodies that arrived today (if that helps), will need about 10 days to present the finished SoC Fedora in this quality.

Would love to see them. If you're shipping what's represented in your pictures on the website, I may very well be getting one.

The hat looks great from what I can see in the pics :H: But if a member had one and posted a review, it would be easier to judge how it looks in real life. Hat looks and sounds great though ;)

Does look great and I would also love to hear how this hat holds up as far as bash goes. In my mind it's one thing to bash a hat and set it on a holder for pics and another thing to place it on your head and seeing as we all don't share the shape and size of indiana's head, I know it will not look exactly like it does in the photos on my own head.

Reminds me that several years ago, Christy offered several hat colors, such as cork, sable, light sable, and I see all three shades represented here depending upon the lighting. Cork was sort of a reddish brown. I like the color of this in the light. Wonder if beaver felt can be shaped as easily?

Thomas, what is your height? the hat doesn't look to big on you, me being 5'10'' 178cm I'm afraid a ROTLA hat will look unproportional.

I'm 179cm and I don't have such a masculine chin as Mr Ford, my face is rounder, but I think the SoC still works. At least I like it ;)

That looks incredible. Its everything you could want from a fedora. Having just bought and received a fed iv deluxe I now find myself coverting thy neighbours Fed! Looks like its going on my Christmas list. I better be a very good boy... or a very bad one and order it without telling my wife....doh!

Mr. 'Vintage-Sir': I do have a question for you regarding this hat. What stiffness option did you choose for yours? I note that they offer a variety of options from floppy forward, thus the question as to which you chose. Truly good looking 'SOC!' W>

At least a new hat won't require aspirin, or cost you 25% of your income for the next 18 years. :[

Dont worry i couldnt conceive of drinking 25% worth of my income. Had a drink Satuday for Halloween and just finished off the box that was left last night. That'll be it till Christmas for me. Just wish my NEW HAT was here for Christmas morning.....

If you drink some more the wait will seem shorter. Just saying. :[

These guys have come a long way. Nice to see they are putting out some nice looking fedoras. Any word on how the compare in the construction aspect to a Penman or an AB?

Well...... mine arrived a while ago but....

I'm just not sure about the bash. I know its supposed to be off centre.... but this is REALLY off centre.

I may have to attempt a rebash. I'll get some pics later today and get some opinions first.

You need to rotate the hat so the front pinch is lined up over your nose and then out up a picture of the front and left side to tell properly.

That's what mine looks like. Well mine is an AB recently reblocked and sent back to me open crown. I have a slightly round oval shaped noggin so for the turn I rotated it more than some have to and from where the sweatband ribbon is on yours mine is similar and I got a nice turn out of it.
I just uploaded two pics over in my last post on the penman post em ups thread.
So you can see the hat with about as much turn as yours seems to have based on your photo of the inside of the hat.

Indyhan, in what way would you mean by saying the turn can be tricky? I always thought it was simple. Maybe the tricky part is getting the precise look you want by just the right amount of turn? Not too much but not too little?

Lol.... its a Mk1 Ford Escort with about 250bhp per tonne. I use it for tarmac stage rallies and im building a mk2 for the forest.

As for the Fedora I think I am gonna give it a rebash a little more central...... not right in the middle.... but closer.

DG, try lining the pinch up with your nose looking in the mirror and see if you get the 'swoop' in the brim to your liking before you change it. If you have a roundish oval head, you may need all of that twist already in the hat to get the effect of the turn. If your head is very round, and not oval, you may get no brim warping at all.

Just thinking.
