White Residue on New OTR Wested

Post by Glenville86 »

Hi Folks,

Got an off the rack Wested in lamb end of last week. Did not notice anything on the jacket when I tried it on Friday and this morning when I put it on, but at lunch noticed a white looking residue that would not brush off with my hand. Checked the jacket at work and the white residue was everywhere. Even under the collar and on the inside of the pockets. Took some paper towels and water to it which removed most of it. This was an OTR and I am wondering if it was mold. Jacket did not have a bad smell

With my new lambskin Wested, I got it a bit wet in a light rain the other day and when the water dried, it was all that white residue. I wiped most of it off but after a day or so, it disappeared on it's own!! Must be some sort of sealer or wax they put on??

That's cool. Never had that before with my other Wested jackets. Maybe has something to do with the lambskin.

No need to worry, as far as I can tell. I've gotten a few jackets wet before, and a white reside came up to the surface. I think that happened on my Todds jackets. Just wipe it off. I think it is some kind of protective additive to the leather that comes up. Perhaps you got your jacket damp and then it dried?

Jacket was dry and had not gotten wet when it happened. Maybe it was a change in temps if it was inside for awhile on the rack at Wested and then wore in the very damp air here in Germany. It had not gotten any rain on it. I checked it this morning and the white had not come back.

It's just residue from the tanning process that has been activated. Wash off with a damp cloth and some diluted detergent.
