Recommended Lining

Dear All,
I saw on Wested's Indy Jacket website that a cotton body/satin sleeve lining was recommended. Does anyone know why they recommend this? Is satin hardwearing enough or should I just order all cotton? What lining do Gearheads recommend?

Nemesis,

I have a LC Wested with the cotton body & satin sleeves. The theory is that the cotton body will give you better wear and durability as the cotton is more forgivable when you sweat. The satin sleeves are less binding when putting on the jacket. The material of your shirt will not get hung up when putting on the jacket. It is the best way to go in my opinion and I am very happy with my choice.

Cotton body satin sleeves all the way. The satin in the sleeves allows for ease of putting on the jacket, as IndyMo said, and the cotton is durable and breathes better. The only reason not to get complete satin lining is because it would be way too hot and might not hold up as well. The satin in the sleeves is quite durable though, and should hold up quite nicely.

Given that you're in the UK, cotton/satin would work just fine. The original jacket was all cotton, and I got my jacket all cotton as well given the heat and humidity in the Southern US...

In addition to the replies given above, I also believe that another reason is that the cotton body is less likely to slide around on the shoulders thus giving the jacket a bit more stability which results in a more even look to the hem than an all satin lining. With a slicker material such as satin, and depending on what type of fabric the shirt or whatever you are wearing underneath your jacket, sometimes you need to pull/adjust the jacket forward or backward to make the hem look even, front and back, on the bottom while standing like an ill fitting suit. Also, with an all satin lining, the jacket tends to ride up the back when reaching, stretching, or sitting.

I'd like to add a sixth "affirmative" to the cotton body-satin sleeves option. It works...very well. Go with it!

I made the mistake of ordering the all cotton lining when I purchased my Wested. I later disovered the recommended lining was the Satin/cotton lining. I've had my Wested for about 4 years and my left sleeve hem is comming undun. Anyways, since I orederd my Wested, I was having my doubts about the lining. The color of the screen jacket is more of a dark brown than what I had received w/ my purchase, it does not look screen accurate at all. Anybody know the reason why this is so???

I have to disagree on the satin lined sleeves. I had this on my 2nd and 3rd Wested, and if you are wearing a short sleeve shirt under the jacket and sweat the slightest, the lining sticks to your skin like saran wrap. I have all cotton now, and don't mind pulling my sleeves inside down occassionally.
