Thrift store find

Post by captblitzdawg »

Was looking around a thrift/ second hand store yesterday and found this "close enough" shirt for fifty cents!

Thanks. I got an Eddie Bauer safari shirt about two weeks ago, so I now have three "close enough" shirts. A seamstress in town is sewing the lines down the front of my primary close-enough. The Walmart recently brought out some pants that look like a close enough match, too. Plan to pick those up in a week or two.

Excellent find!

WalMart used to carry trousers by Wrangler that were very good close enoughs for a great price. I think the only issue was there was not pocket flaps, but some members bought extra long pairs and used the excess off the cuff to make the flaps.

Thanks, Jeff! I'll keep that in mind when I go to look. That's a great idea.

Nothing like a 'find' at just the right time, near what you want at such a good price. The Wrangler pleated khaki pants are great, taupe brown/gray color. All you need is about 2 1/2" extra for the flaps, but someone would have to make them and sew them on. But for less than $20 its quite the textile. I have dug in them, I dig 'em!

Cool! Thank you, Scott!

I have to say, joining this forum has really helped me in getting better gear, how to use it and wear it and so much more!

I think that many times you'll find that close enoughs will perform BETTER in terms of function than the real deal. Ive been coming to that conclusion lately. Especially with boots. I have no place for $500 boots, especially with smooth soles like the SA ones do.

and I really don't like that some charge a premium for them. Too much pride.

Recently found some lace up boots at Ross for $50, moc toe, etc. It pays to look around but to get what you want.

Back to the pants, but the George brand at Wal-Mart is another one to look at as well.

50 cents?!? A true bargain, and pretty darn good "close enough" too!
Under a jacket, nobody will know it's the real thing :)

I bought a pair of the George slacks in taupe years ago and they've really held up great. I just wish I had the foresight to pick up several more pairs before they discontinued that color ( hopefully It'll come back soon ).
