Well what should I do with all this leather?

Bags, Boots, Shirts and all other gear should be discussed here.

Well what should I do with all this leather?

Post by ChrisMD »

My friend's dog destroyed the cushions on his expensive but old leather sofa and before he dumped it he let me at it with my Ka-Bar. I ended up with a 3'x6' piece, and a few 3'x3' pieces. It's soft and super pliable so probably not suitable for a holster, but I want to try to make some stuff. Definitely at least a piece of Indy gear. No idea on the type of leather but it is silky smooth. Can't believe he was just gonna toss it!

I want your ideas on what to make!

Could try crafting a whip holder for your gunbelt :-k
How about a grail diary? You need soft pliable leather for the covers, so it shouldn't be a problem. Then again, it also depends on the thickness of your leather. Just a thought

Diary covers is a good idea.

I got a leather MKVII from Wade Eagan when he was making them and use it as my EDC rather than my vintage satchel. Serves the dual purpose of preserving the vintage bag and the leather bag is a bit more refined to carry to work.

Or run down to your nearest hatter and have him make up a gen-u-ine leather fedora, just like in the movies!

Personally, I have it made into a SA fedora with the script mentioned purple feather, but that's just me. [-(

Wait, deja vu? :-k

Or you could have a very small custom jacket made for an Indy action figure!

Seriously, though, I think the diary cover is the best idea, given the color. You might also want to try making a cell phone or tablet case out of it. You'd need something inside to make it more rigid, naturally. Or perhaps a cool book cover for something Indy-related, archeological, or history centric, or an old hardcover atlas.

I do like that idea. Right now my only black powder is an 1860 Army repro.

You mean to tell me that with your avatar and living in the Colorado mountain county, you don't own at least one Hawken rifle?

Heck, I live in Tennessee, and even I own a .45 caliber T/C Hawken! #-o

I hunted many years with a 'Renegade', which was T/C's cheaper version of the Hawken. Now I'm part of the inline crowd, although I'm not sure if I'm proud or embarrassed by that. I'd really like to get a Pennsylvania/Kentucky rifle at some point.
