The non screen accurate gear section of the forum

We focus alot on screen accuracy.. bit why not be slittle creative and steer away from the stitch and details and have fun. Be sure to post your creative Indy as well...

Here I am wearing my fathers 20 year old Goatskin jacket. He wore it day in day out, never treated it with anything. It was his Indy jacket. He passed away 3 years ago.. I thought it would be fun to see it together with the hat and whip..

I'm also wearing dark brown vintage pants and a mustard yellow vintage shirt with close enough boots.. cuz I like to be creative..

The other parts are well known.. needles to say, Gas mask bag, webley holster, raiders gunbelt, Raiders whip, LC hat. Well lamont 1130 Gloves.

My question is.. do you have to have ''Screen Accurate'' gear to get the Indy vibe? IMO Absolutley not!! I think it really works!

Holt: What a great thread! Love your conceptual costuming here. Reminds me of Mitch's ideas for 'Steranko Indy!' Proving that 'it' the costuming does not have to follow all the screen guidelines to achieve the effect, feeling and over-all 'Indy vibe!' However, I would warn you...if the 'new Indy' flicks truly get off the ground, you might get some phone calls regarding new 'Indy-looks' for the re-visited franchise ! W>

What amuses me a bit about this thread is, until we had decent photos or screen grabs, this how just about EVERYONE dressed before the hobby of gear collecting began. Everyone 'guessed'.

Holt, I love what you've done. Being a single father with three teens and a so-so income (I'm a librarian), finding what works for my budget usually means settling for close enough. But I believe if everything is close enough, the overall effect is achieved. My shirt doesn't have the stitching down the front or the epaulets but the color and the two pockets were good enough for me at $4. The pants aren't right, but they have this unusual shade of brown I have never seen before, so I figure a unique color is good enough for another $4. The 30 year old Stetson was about $30. The jacket was a tax refund splurge at $100, and while folks say it has some differences from the SA jackets, I've seen enough pics to see enough similarities to the SA jackets, and I've seen similar designs used on my jacket that show up on old Westeds and other higher priced labels, so I am certainly satisfied with it. I found some $20 workboots at Wal-Maet I can weather to death. The web belt was easy find. Getting the gun belt has been a stickler for me. They seem rather expensive, so I use a $16 Dickies work belt. The holster is small and looks quite old, so I am customizing my own revolver for it starting with a $1 toy a the base. The bag is a Belgian gas mask bag, and outside of the side disc and vent holes, everything else is very similar. Good enough for $15. The strap cost me about that much, too. The tie was $4. My whip is black, 4-plait. A good starter at 9' and about $25. I can crack it, and that's what the kids like to see and hear! The gloves I had in the shed. The whip holder was about $10 and doesn't hold well. My ugly homemade one does the job, though. Throw in the lost journal and some DIY props and I spent about $275 over the past couple years assembling a look of "close-enough."

ChrisMD- I guess you already know, the jacket is Flesh & Hide. As Michealson has said, it is made in Pakistan, so I have no idea what type of leather the jacket is- goat, lamb, cow, something else? Checking their site today, it seems the Indy jacket is not available at this time.

Vintage MKVII with an LL Bean messenger bag strap



A good backdrop certainly helps pull the look together.
