Very nice, John! Could this hat technically pass for a LC hat as well? Or is this one not bashed the same way as the promo shot?

Not at all. Ribbon is wider, brim is non-dimension and is the only Indy hat that isn't dimensional cut.

Been asked a few times to do a real time of my work day in photos. Does this sound like something people would like to see? If I get enough interest I will give it a go.

Ok. I was just wondering bc of this hat (minus the wider ribbon)

I see what your getting at and the crown is very similar but the brim on the LC is dimensional cut and the Young Indy is wider and is not dimensional cut. Which makes a big difference. Add the wider ribbon, different crease and the hat is different. The TOD and LC have much more in common then these two. The only real difference between the TOD and LC is the crease. Now there are a couple in both movies that throw this off but there are way to much in common then not. Block shape, ribbon/bow, and oval specs.

I can't even say how utterly excited I am to now own a Penman!! I purchased the LC beaver from a member here not long ago. I used to wear a 22 1/4" fedora. Since I lost 30 pounds, all my hats are loose. So loose that I put foam strips in them to tighten up the fit. The hat I bought from here is a 22 1/8". I received it early last week or so, and....well..it's pretty darn tight! :( It was also banged up badly in the delivery. So much so that the bash didn't just pop right back. Most did, but not the front pinch. John and I talked, and now it's on it's way to him to see what he can do with it *no doubt some magic*. Also, as Temple is by far the love of my life, the hat will not be a LC once it's done. Just posting these pics here so people can see how banged up it was in delivery. The hat was made in 2009 as well. Still so proud to own a Penman!!! Will post pics once I receive it back from John. Thanks to the member, and big thanks to John for helping me out!

Wow thats a shame. I often wonder what they do with packages once out of sight. Kickball? Use them as stools? Yikes. I had a member send me a Kali Chalice with GREAT packaging and the USPS managed to break that too.

Cant wait to see the reworked hat!

I'm the original owner.

I'm sorry to see how banged up the hat came to you.

There was insurance on it, perhaps you can get a compensation from the postal company.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. As long as it doesn't have a hole ripped in it, or is discolored or damaged in a way that affects the integrity of the felt John will be able to get it back in shape with little difficulty.

He just cleaned up Penman #198 (made in 2009) for me. This is the hat I wear the most.

It has now had its second cleaning and reblock and is softer and better than ever.

Here is the before picture . . .

Image

. . . . and here is the after picture.

Image

In part, the problem with the first picture is the side creases had gotten pushed way too far back. but I could not get them to stay in right, and I think the hat had tapered again anyway.

Of all the hats I own, this one is really "my hat." It still has the original ribbon and sweatband, but is on its third liner. I like the other ones, but there is something special about this one for some reason. It has been folded, rolled, packed, crushed and attacked by grandchildren and has always popped right back.

John's restoration is really amazing. I can't thank him enough for the great job he did on it. :TOH: :TOH:

Just got this charcoal Eno from John:

Image

I wanted something a little different to go with my more "modern" Bond suits... and a bit more "Elwood" than "Indy". The Penman Eno ticked all the boxes.

Thanks, John!

Kind regards,
Magnoli

Alright boys and girls, I have joined the club!!! What a freaking hat! What customer service! Seriously impressed on all points when it comes dealing with John. Special thanks to the previous owner here! All in all, from purchase to receiving, I have waited about a month and a half total.

Thanks John! I love it! *sorry for the crappy pictures, I had a ticked off 13 year old snapping them outside*

As you have now found out, it's tough to tell which is better - John's attention to making customers happy with his hat making skills, or his attention to making his customers happy with his communication and personal attention to their needs and requests.

Enjoy it in good health. :TOH:

Received my Penman's Temple a few weeks ago and I can't express how much I love it. It feels amazing and fits beautifully!

Here's a quick pic I took in the mirror after giving it quick "bridge scene" dry bash straight out of the box. Had to chuck on my Wested ToD too(along with a WPG shirt I'll me modding) just to see how it looks together :D

Image

Definitely going to order a Raider's too one I finish off the rest of my Temple gear and would love to upgrade my LC to a Penman's too further down the track!

ps: You say, 'Raider's' is next! FWIW: I just ordered an ABLegacy from John this week and I cannot wait. I have his 'Skull,' 'Crusader,' and 'Train,' now a 'ABL Raider.....' caution to the wind! Again, great look here buddy. Very nice, indeed! W>

Do I have to have an designated driver to do this :rolling: ? Just kidding. Yeah, I love my other three from John and this one has been making a very deliberate sneak attack in the back of my mind for some time. Thus, I surrendered to the ever strong, though silent impulses and bled my checking account, yet one more time and now.....I CAN HARDLY WAIT \:D/ ! W>
