Fedora storage / Travel Box

Post by yukyuk »

Hello All-
Hopefully I didn't miss this on the threads somewhere but I was just curious how everyone is storing there fedoras when not being worn. I just stepped up from an original "Made in the USA" Indiana Jones Epic Stunt show fedora to an AdVintage Harrison. Obviously it came in a shipping box but that was it.

Second (similar) question when traveling - Do you travel with your fedora? If its not appropriate during travel, do you have some kind of travel box for it?

Thanks,
Mike

For storage at home, Sarah's Hat Boxes are the best out there. http://www.sarahshatboxes.com/default.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can select from their XXXL hat boxes (come with a cord) or round boxes (no cord) work great for Indy fedoras. I have a plastic hat stand inside the box like one of these. https://www.thehatco.com/Professional_R ... ingle.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Works like a charm.

It's always appropriate to travel with a fedora. Back in the day, a gentlemen wouldn't think of doing anything else.

When I'm traveling with a hat I wear it except when I'm seated on a plane. In that case, depending on the length of the flight I'll either hold it on my lap or put it in the overhead or under the seat. If I do either of those two options (especially on the floor) I have a small tote bag to keep the bag from getting unnecessarily dirty. Demonstrated here http://indygear.com/cow/viewtopic.php?f ... hilit=tote" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

When traveling with more than one fedora (an ever increasing occurrence for me), I pack the extra in my suitcase. I just place it in the suitcase on it's crown and pack clothes around and inside it.

Bencraft hats in Brooklyn has a fantastic travel hat can. It's not on their website, but if you give them a call, they'll ship one to you. I think they're around $45 or so, but a worthwhile investment for a serious hat wearer.

I have way more fedora hats than a sane man should.......

I store mine in a very large Tupperware container. They are placed in it lightly and not crammed together. Most are in individual plastic bags. My few more expensive ones are stored inside a wall locker on the top shelf in plastic bags. Have a hall tree when you walk into the house where I keep 3 of them that are in the wear rotation. :roll:

I don't have space in the German house I am renting to store a bunch of hat boxes.

great question I have as well....

I keep mine on my grandmas old hat rack, hoping this is not a faux pas for a decent hat (think it's a Henry).

when I get my Penman was going to check on better ways of keeping it around the house

I'm wanting a decent hat stand to go along with it so it doesn't get misshapen ( if that even happens) from my hat rack.

Reviving this thread with a Sarah's Hat Box addition.

I have had two hats that are too big for the size hat boxes I get for my fedoras.

Unfortunately it doesn't take them long to look like this. :Dietrich:

All cleaned up.

Finally got around to ordering two new boxes for them. These are Deluxe Round 17" boxes.

Hats are tucked away and happy.

I just received some of the hatstands mentioned earlier by Indiana Jeff. They work great for my application. Thanks Jeff for the tip!
