Shaping Rabbit Felt

Post by Indiana Croft »

Now not to sound any thing close to blasphemy, but I was wondering how difficult it is to shape rabbet felt.
I have a ABL and I've worn it just about every day since I received, literally. I really love the feel of this hat. Now Mr. Penaman as a mater of course puts in the infamous turn.

And some time when I look at my self wearing, I'm like this is awesome, and some times I look at my self wearing it and I'm like frustrated on the amount of the turn.

I was wondering if any one know the best way to tweak the hat to look more like when Indy's on the front of the truck, which isn't to far off from the SOC.

What it looks like as of couple of days ago.

I think it looks great as is. I am a bit confused as to what you are asking. Are you saying you want less of a turn you already have? I have an ABL on order and I requested it sent open crowned.

I do not think you can rebash it now. Leave as is or buy a new hat!

Croft, if I get you right. You want less turn in you hat to match the one in the pic where Indy is on the truck. Look at indys hat as where the his nose is compaired the the front pinch.

Oh I know the hat on the front of the truck is virtually the same as the SOC, I guess I just want a little more swoop on the other side with the bow.

Please don't misconstrue my words, I love this hat. I think all my hats have a turn, but this for me is Hmmm still getting used.
I don't want to re-create this hat, just make it more my own, and still have the turn.

So that's my basic question, is there a way to shape it / tweak it just a little.

I will, but it'll have to wait a bit, an un-expected business trip has come, but I will

Well here's my ABL rabbit tweaked just a little on the bow side.
Just had a nice conversation with John and I know my course from here on out. No tweaking, let it settle and once done, no more grabbing by the pinch/crown.

First shot is one I took prior to tweaking, no the tweaking is subtle, but it's enough so that when I look at myself wearing it, I'm one happy Penman hat owner. I really am enjoying it, thank you for creating such a beautiful fedora.

These are a couple I took today after tweaking with a little distilled water and walking around out side and shaping it.

And thanks again for the compliment.

Will do, I need to take another with my head tilted down so it'll be closer to the first.

See, not to much tweaking because with my head tilted down, it still looks like the first.
