Last crusade wested jacket from 08 ( Smithsonian)

Post by Holt »

So, guys, with all the Last Crusade motion of lately i thought my jacket deserved another thread for itself. Hopefully it can help inspire people getting a Last crusade for themselfs cuz they are awesome...Wested hit this one really out of the park. And that 7 years ago... :) And Peter told to me that he was very much involved in making the jacket. Which is very cool!

Anyways....It's now 7 years old. This jacket was the first corrected LC pattern that I put together. Very hard work and study went into getting not only the details but the pattern right as well.. I am very happy with it. It still lacks a few details, like the back armseam but hey!... the rest is about me 98% accurate and that is good enough for me. This jacket is horsehide and it is so well put toghether. Anyways, here is my baby! Picture taken in natural daylight!

To get it right, you have to get few deatils in order like the wider collar pluss the rounded tips, the pocket flaps shape and width, the pocket placement, the Backpanel is also tweaked from standard backpanel. Small strap box with D-rings, The stormflap is a tad wider then standard. Black silk lining. A tad wider arms. No hem stitch.

Here she was about new. You can tell how accurate the pattern is! :)

I love when the screen accurate braggarts can back it up with a side by side shoot from the movie... There is no denying that. Great job getting the details right. I know you have always been good at getting it right. Great job!

Still hands down the most SA LC jacket I've seen on here. Well done.

Wested still makes the LC likeness with a collar that points to the front and pointed flaps/flaps not wide. I never understood the collar variant. Granted the LC/CS jacket is standardized, but a few more tweaks and would be a better repro. Still a LC classic here.

If only Wested did one of those as their current LC. When I got my LC in 2002 it was just a Raiders with an extra inch and snaps. The pockets were terrible but the collar was almost there. Nowadays the Wested LC is a curious CS/LC hybrid with totally wrong pockets.

If you have Wested create a LC jacket then you have to give them the specs for it to turn out correct. Wested's LC/CS is closer to a Crystal Skull jacket then Last Crusade.

Thanks, Holt. As others have pointed out, I still don't understand why Wested doesn't make a more SA LC jacket. I mean, they have the TOD and Raiders Hero, so why not the LC? I think it would be easier on them if they just made a more SA jacket because they wouldn't have to deal with 1) a long list of specs from customers and 2) making sure they followed each of the desired specs. Just discovered your fantastic SA jacket, and found the collar of my new LC jacket is different from your jacket, which makes screen inaccurate! I never understood why every jacket they made is different if they use same pattern

Hello.

Thank you :TOH:

Well, unfortunatley this is something that has been going on since wested started their business. Each and every jacket are made from what pattern they use at the time. This is the reason for all the mix ups. Even tho this is a fact, the jackets are still very nice and is a well made product. If I wasn't THAT much into SA I would just buy one or two, maby 3 jackets and be done. (I think) Some 25+ jackets later and I am still playing the game. lol

On the LC jacket, the collar is one of those things they have a hard time getting right. That and the pockets.

My jacket has a different collar, different pockets, bigger sleeves then normal, tapered backpanel, wider stormflap and no hem stitch at the bottom. Those details are part of what makes mine different from the rest and this is somehting that should be made as a standard on the future jackets.

I recently gave it the total screen accurate distressing makeover to match one of the originals I based my jacket specs on.

That looks like the CS collar.

I wouldn't worry about it. Looks fine. They are similiar collars anyways..

Enjoy the jacket :TOH:

...I was just at the Smithsonian this past weekend. When I went to look for the jacket, and couldn't find it, the employees noted that it is no longer on display (probably stored in the basement as they change out displayed periodically).

As a side note, if I gave Wested Holt's L.C. specs, would Peter and the team have those details on file to build a replica of Holt's, just out of curiosity? If not, perhaps you would be willing to please lend me your research so that I too may get a S.A. Last Crusade jacket. And, to Holt - once I receive my Wested jacket (based on your specs if doable), what if a guy like me then shipped you my jacket and paid you to distress it as pictured in your postings? Would that be of interest? If so, what would you charge?

Thanks for your time!
