I was reading this thread hoping to get some info on the ribbon. I'm thinking it's black and slightly wider than the hero ribbon, say 1 3/4". Is there any consensus on this? As for the other specs, same as the hero?

Many thanks

John can certainly chime in with his opinion, but best I can remember from threads here, the exact width of the ribbon has never been determined. As has been referenced throughout this thread, the color of the hat was hotly debated for years so getting a handle on the ribbon would be that much more difficult.

Shooting inside the confines of the plane led to having to use lenses with focal lengths that could somewhat distort the dimensions of the hat making measurements from screen grabs very difficult.

I think the consensus here is the clipper hat was the same dimensions, including ribbon, as the brown hat.

....and those dimensions were:

The specifications for the actual hat Ford wore are reportedly as follows:
Size: 7 ¼ (size 58 European)
Crown: 5 ½ (5.5) inches
Brim (front & back): 2 ¾ (2.75) inches
Brim (sides): 2 5/8 (2.625) inches
Ribbon: 1 ½ (1.5) inches (39mm)
(from the main site)

Thanks for that. To me the ribbon looked wider, but perhaps that's just lens distortion.

Cheers

I ordered a gray Raiders in the late 1980's from HJ. It is definitely the right color from what I can tell but over the TOD block I think. A friend of mine has it now and I will try to get a picture.

But same proportions as my HJ brown, ribbon and all.

I would never argue with you John, seriously... I absolutely respect your knowledge...but, I went with the Steel Gray based on this first pic (knowing that different lighting affects colors sharply, I just prefer this color to the one in the second picture of the Big Nazi on the street in what appears to be the same hat, possibly even the same hat Indy wears on the Clipper):

Sorry, didn't know. I try to stay out of all the brouhaha. :Plymouth:

Are there any pics of the Nazi's ribbonwork? If there is one, and also one on the Clipper hat, we may have something here :D

In my opinion, when the hats are directly compared next to each other, it seems as though the ribbon on the Clipper is slightly wider.

I think the Clipper ribbon is 42mm compared to the ~39mm of the Hero fedoras. I know other members think so as well.
