Wested Indy Goatskin Jacket Basic Question

Post by Glenville86 »

Am going to order a Wested Indy Jacket in Goatskin this week.

Have been looking at both the Raiders and Last Crusade/Crystal Skull Jackets and since these are made to modern fitting standards, is there any difference in the jackets other than the snaps on the front?

Wested also told me when I order to get my normal jacket size which is a 48.

Well, patterns change a bit over time, but typically the Raiders collar is smaller and the shoulder yoke is smaller (the horizontal back seam at the shoulders is higher). Otherwise, I don't think the Raiders jacket falls off the shoulders towards the back when worn like the Wested Hero model. Is that what you were wondering?

Thank you - from just looking at the pictures on their site, I could not see a difference between them except for the CS jacket having the snaps. Also the statement that they are all cut to modern standard sizes and in the detailed description they provide only showed the snaps as being the difference.

I went back to their site again and it is stated for the Raider:

"The jacket itself sports a smaller and rounder collar than the Last Crusade and doesn’t have the two press studs at the top and bottom of the collar."

Looks like the collar and snaps then.

I asked them the same question about not wanting a tight/snug jacket and Rebecca at Wested said to order my normal sport coat/suit size.

So - If I am normally a 48, should I got up to a 50 or 52 Raiders Jacket?

And here is the issue. It kinda depends....

The numbers on a lot of retailers clothes are actually a couple of sizes smaller than they actually are, it's called 'Vanity Sizing' so the customer can feel good that they can still get into a XX sized pair of jeans for instance. When in reality the jeans are xx + 2" or even +4"!

I have a 40" chest and I can fit into, and zip up!, a 38 Wested in a tshirt without a lot to spare and can comfortably layer a tshirt and an unbulky sweatshirt in a 40. A 42 would swamp me.

Get someone to measure you comfortably around the chest and have an honest discussion with yourself as to if you are really a 48 or a 50 or even a 52. :)

BTW the numbers are in inches... I noticed you are in Germany so don't ant any confusion.

Also The cut of the Raiders, and hero is different to the LC/CS. The shoulders and upper arms on the LC are looser and the bottom of the jacket is less open around the side pleats. Ie it is more V shaped. The collar on the LC/CS is also longer at the tips.

I have a nonstandard type body build. :(

My actual chest measurement is a 44. My shoulders are 22 inches width and I have pretty large arms (26 years of Army push-ups). Waist is a 38 and I am 6 foot 4 inches. I can wear a 46L suit or a 48 regular which is sort of loose in the chest. I can wear a Wilson XL jacket in most models but most off the shelf outerwear I end up getting 2XL for overall fit.

I just got a US Wings imported Steerhide jacket in a XXL Long that fits. Sleeves could be an inch shorter.

Then I expect you need a custom.

The wings sleeves being slightly long may be a blessing, sometimes they ride up a bit after a while.

i should say..i did workout for years..im a little thick up top..BUT I measured and I thought a 50" would be a little lose..Its not..I should have went with a 52 or 54"..SO imho if you want room for layers at all, you might want to go up a size or 2..AND keep in mind the LC/CS jacket is nothing closes to CS..its not long enough..its what I ordered..IF you want longer you'll have to special order..it needs about 2" :rolling: lol

The US Wings imported Legend Steerhide XXL Long I have is sized on their site as a 50-52 from their chart and it fits well and is also a slim fit jacket.

From that, am thinking the regular/standard fit Wested would work in a 50.

I just don't want to have to mail it back...........

Went ahead and ordered the size 50. Better to be too large a bit instead of too small. :-k

With your height and size I recommend you discuss with wested as you likely need to go with a custom.

I used the jacket length and arm length of the US Wings XXL Tall I have and in that area, it is almost identical to the Wested. The US Wings is listed as a 50-52 and the armpit to armpit is at 25.5 and is a slim fit. It is comfortable with just a shirt but would not be able to layer. The Wested size 50 is advertised as 28 pit to pit which will give me around 5 more inches around the chest.

The US Wings and Wested are both size 50 but different as one is a slim fit and one is a regular fit. The US Wings is a very form fitting jacket.

I had passed on my sizes via e-mail with Wested and they recommended I order a 48 which is my normal suit size. I think the 48 would have been alright but just took a gamble with the size as I normally like looser fitting outerwear.

I could always send it back if the fit is really bad.

Ok doke, it's just that at 6'4" and 50" chest you are at the right of the spectrum. Says the guy at the far left.

The WPG jacket arrived today. I ordered the XXL and the fit is decent. The only other goat jacket I have is an LL Bean Flying Tiger that seems more substantial in weight. The WPG is a lightweight goat and a slim fit. I will have something to compare it to when the goat Wested one arrives next week. The only negative for me I can see is the sleeve lining extends past the cuff slightly but can be adjusted. This jacket that does not seem like a good colder weather jacket but would be perfect for a light jacket. My US Wings steerhide is still going strong here in the early Winter in Germany.

Since my last post, have ended up with a couple Wested size 48 and 50. The 48 jackets fit well but I like the fit of the 50 jackets better. I like a looser fitting jacket and the size 50 is perfect for that. The 48 ones fit and seem to have a more traditional type fit. More form fitted but not tight.

I wear my LC/CS goatskin everyday I can..but i'll never be happy with it..Wested gives false advertisement "to me"..That jacket looks NOTHING like the pictures and is NOTHING like a CS jacket..Add another 3" to the length of the jacket..Add a real collar to it..and fix the color..THEN we'll be a LOT closer..sorry to those that dont like people calling out venders, but its true..Still not sure why venders sell a jacket that is supposed to be sa when its not? I mean,..Wested made Indys jacket..lol..you would think everything they sell would be sa...shouldnt have to "special order" to get it...my thinking on it.

Well, I hope I like what I get. One of the first things I ever said was that I wanted an Indy goatskin jacket. I guess if I don't like it, I can always return it and get the lambskin. The goatskin is my favorite though so I hope I like it...

you usually have to spec a LC if you want an SA order.

Speaking of goatskin, I think Wested should consider carrying thin, dark brown goat as a regular option. It is great leather. WPG's goat is also a nice warm brown, pliable skin. Some of it was as soft as lamb.

WPG makes a good jacket for the money.

I just received a Wested Hero from the recent sale. Not sure I am crazy about the Hero fit. I ran it through a cold gentle cycle and hung it up to dry. Wore it some as well wet to help with the fit. It is now dry and wore it to work this morning. It is now darker which I like. Think this jacket will take some time to break in. It is in distressed hide which may be why it feels strange (sort of stiff). Will need to get used to the Hero fit with the collar and jacket fitting further back.

I would also like to see Wested offer some dark goat.
