Garrison order time?

Post by Okiebug71 »

Hello all! Just wondering what the average wait time has been for those who ordered from Garrison?
I placed an order for a standard Raiders hat on August 19 - and haven't heard a peep after the initial
exchange of info about hat sizing. Seems unusual for it to be this long without any word. Thanks!

Well, here's what he posted regarding Halloween orders from last August in the vendors section, so I'm not sure what the status of orders are now. Based on this post, it seems you're on target for a delivery about now, but only he can tell you that. :-k

I think mine a few years back was 10-12 weeks. I think he's still in that range, give or take.

You need to keep in mind that these guys are one man shops; they have no control over how many orders they get in a week; and in David's case he also runs a full time land surveying business that suffers from the same ebb and flow.

Taking the 5 minutes an individual thinks is no big deal to provide a weekly "I'm working as fast as I can" update equates to 4 hours if he's got 48 orders in line. That's a lot of time to give away for free when you're that busy.

My approach is once I know they have my order leave them alone until they need something from me. It's the way I prefer my own clients to behave so why not treat others as I like to be treated. :TOH:

I have a very recent transaction with him. Initially I was told 8-10 weeks. I heard very very little during that time. At about week 7 or 8 I did reach out. Time between communication was about a week or longer after I sent multiple emails. I was HUGELY frustrated. I ordered mine around August 5th and just got mine 3 days ago. His communication is a massive letdown, but his work is great.

Ok, thanks for the responses! That's what I figured and, yes, I'm being mindful that he's doing this by himself. Just curious what others had experienced. I can't wait to get my hat!

I ordered in January and received in March. Communication was top notch and the hat....well....it is art!

As with any online purchase YMMV

I enjoy reading this site but never posted. I ordered a beaver felt Raiders hat from David on July 2, 2014. Knowing it would take time, I ordered an Akubra Adventurer, which arrived in a matter of days. Service with David Morgan was top-shelf. I subsequently ordered another Akubra for me and one for our son. My Garrrison arrived on October 29, 2014, 17 week turnaround. E-mail communication with David was initially very quick (instant) but slowed a bit in the summer. I had not read the notice David posted on COW regarding personal setbacks. When concern was raised on another thread about delivery problems I wrote David and he was responsive. All in all, working with David was a fine experience and now knowing he had difficulties this summer puts everything in perspective. It appears several customers received their orders last week in time for Halloween. I wish David nothing but the best. The hat he made for me is beautiful and a work of art. It is a much finer hat than my Akubra's, but that is to be expected with a hand-made hat and the pricing differential. The hats are not an "Indy" thing for me, but rather to provide protection from the Florida sun following way more than a few skin cancers. Same with our son and the hat I ordered for him. My Garrison remained firmly on my head Saturday with 40 mph winds on the golf course. With each 10 mph increase in gusts, I just stuck another of those little white felt strips Akubra provides under the ultra-soft leather sweatband in my Garrison and it worked perfectly to keep my hat from blowing down the fairway.

Ha. That was rather windy on Saturday. I wore mine too. Wear it when I golf as well.

I am super happy that everyone else seems satisfied with things. I am not the easiest person to please, so I have heard, and I do have high standards when it comes to communication. I am a service manager for an electrical company. I get paid to talk, and communicate. It's key in my opinion to being above the competition and serving customers. Doing what you say, sticking to your quotes, and being there *or delivering* when quoted at HUGE to me. So I admit, I hold others to the same standards I require from myself, and my men.

David's work is top notch, and the hat he made me is easily my favorite hat that I own now. Just barely over the ToD I recently received as well.

You won't be sorry if you get a hat from him, that I can promise.

Finally got it :)
I got a really nice note from David, apologizing for the delay and explaining about the wait. Again, it wasn't a problem, I was just anxious to get the hat!

And it was totally worth the wait - this hat is a thing of beauty. I love it. Well worth it if you plan on getting a screen-accurate fedora that you actually plan on wearing on a daily basis. :TOH:

Yes - rabbit felt. It really is a great hat - it even smells nice when you first open the box. Never heard of a "new hat" smell, but it had it... :D

Oh, I've often written about new hat smell when I first receive a new hat. Love it!
