How often do you brush?

Post by Jeremiah »

Your hats? Obviously when it looks dusty or dirty, but sometimes I do it at least once a week regardless of how it looks? Just love the way it feels after I brush it. Too much? Too little?
What are your habbits?

I wear my fedora everyday. Wore it to legoland yesterday. Got a few compliments on it too. I think it helped improve my lazer gun skills as well.

once a week is just fine. Not too much at all. brushing is a good habit to get into. Not only does it keep the felt dust free but keeps the fibers tight. Just make sure you brush counter clockwise on the top of the hat and clockwise on the bottom of the hat (underside of the brim).

Frequently. Any that are not in a hat box at least weekly.

The one I'm wearing, usually before I leave the house and almost always when I take it off at the end of the day.

In addition to getting rid of dust brushing dislodges any insect larvae that might be on the hat. I do the same with good wool suits

At least twice a day and ideally after meals.

Always use fluoride.

I lived in Florida on the Gulf coast for almost exactly a year, and not once was the humidity or the temps low enough to wear a beaver felt fedora. How do you manage to wear yours daily??

Got the hat beginning of September. Wear daily. Guess the heat does not bother me after living here for 12 years. Lived in Malaysia for 2 years too.

That makes sense. I grew up out west and I never acclimated to the humidity after I moved to Florida. I'm a westerner to my bones. At least now I too can wear my hat daily!

It took me a couple of years to acclimate to the humidity when I moved to Tallahassee back in the late 80's from Ohio. Since then I've stayed in the South and have learned to live with it, but I, too, wore my fur felt fedora my entire time I lived in Florida.

Not sure WHY I did, but I did. ;)

Never been in Florida until last year and my hat lasted on my head one day before I took it off and left it at the house as my noggin' was turning into a sweatbox! ( being a dry climate westerner, I'm not overly fond of moisture-prone climates - guess that rules out any South American treks in the future! ). As for hat brushing, I only do mine when it gets dusty/dirty. After finishing another sequence on our fanfilm the other night, my good 'ol Keppler needed a little TLC with the brush after the shoot - looks good as new again. :D

I have a large collection of fur fedora hats and rotate them. Give them a light brushing in the evening after I get home.
