Not sure yet. I hope an Indy jacket, but ya never know. I've got a love/hate relationship with the gear. I go in spells, but right now I don't have much at all.

Just my thoughts..but..dont buy "gear"..buy clothing and accessories. THEN you dont buy and sell everything..You are too busy wearing and using as every day clothing..mix and match,etc..IF all i was after was "gear" or trying to look a part,i wouldnt do this..and I would feel strange dressing in it..Just my .02..

IV's jacket is one of the best Todd's jackets I have ever seen. From the first run.

That's exactly what I do YJ. I just was using the general term gear for everything. The reason I sell my stuff is its not practical for me. I've yet to own an Indy jacket that I truly loved. I've liked some a lot, but never loved one...

getcha a bottle of leather lotion and give it a good hand rub. That is what I used to do with my new Todd's, especially the older runs. When you first pull it out of the box, its like....what? But the more you work with it, the better it looks, especially that collar. Don't worry though, it will shape up in a hurry, as you use it. ;)

Question for you guys. I haven't gotten a really good look on how HF wears it, but are the back belt loops (or whatever they're called) looped snugly, or were worn more loosely?

Also, has anyone done any distressing on their jackets? If so, any pics?

jsarino,

Check out the search in both the 'Leather Jacket' and 'Gear Care and Distressing' sections for a wealth of knowledge from those who've come before us. :)

In the meantime, here's a link to get you started on your strap question:

I can sympathize with this to a degree for sure! My first two wings jackets are tight, and not as tight but still snug. I do LOVE them because I am a sentimental type person. The first one was a Christmas present and at the very beginning of my Indy Gear obtaining days. I get easily attached so I can't ever sell anything. :) Next jacket is my Magnoli Raiders. Definitely my most screen accurate jacket. Love that one too. I just obtained my first "real world" jacket that I can use now since it fits so well. My Wested Novapelle from the Bazaar. I got it bigger than SA for me so I can wear it on real "adventures" and be able to layer and such. I love that one too!

Wait a minute, you and I have the exact opposite problem!

My XXL from the latest batch arrived today. Wore it a little bit walking back to the office from the post office. The jacket length and width are good. Sleeves are long enough but could be slightly longer. Sleeves actually fit like a regular jacket should. Leather is nice with plenty of siriations.

Only things I noticed out of the box and initial impressions:
Back Straps seem a little on the long side. Had to tighten it up maybe an inch or so from stock which makes them even longer.
The lining sticks out on the zipper side when the jacket is open.
The smell - this is the 2nd jacket I have bought with a very unpleasant smell. My G&B in goat was the same. Will need to air it out for a week or so. It is not that good leather smell but a more chemical smell from the processing.

Will post more as I get to know the jacket. For the price, a nice jacket so far.

For reference, I am 6 feet 4 inches, 240 pounds, 38 inch waist, normal sleeve length is 36-37 in shirts. Normally wear a 48 in sport coats and a 52 or XXL in outerwear.

^^^Glenville, your impressions are spot-on. I wish there was a way to shorten the straps, because it does seem too long after tightening it. The liner should be snugger so it doesn't stick out, especially when I'm zipping the jacket up. As for that smell, it took quite a while for it to air out. Even a couple of months after I had the jacket, my wife still bugged me about it. :)

Yeah - it took the Expedition a long time as well. I left the Todd's jacket in my office at work yesterday (big area with 3-others) and when I came in this morning, I could smell it straight away. ;) Not knocking the smell really but it does stink right now. The waist on the XXL will fit someone with a larger size than mine without worry.

Some impressions on the Todd's current run of jackets is that his version best represents the movie jacket in terms of the color, thickness of the leather and type of skin used. The Hero jacket, as used in the Tanis dig and truck chase, does not look like a heavy jacket, just the opposite. A few tweaks to the pocket flaps and a thinner yoke and you are well on your way. The first few runs were spot on in terms of details.

Yeah had to go over it a little to not look so new. Then I have been taking it on short hikes up my mountain over some very technical terrain for some natural weathering and dust.

I love Todd's products.

The jacket always captured beautifully the Raiders look.

And my friend, this is a very good example!

Here's my Todd's standard in medium. Got it about two weeks ago. Second Indy jacket ever (first was a Wested LC washed goat several years ago). For the Todd's, I requested a nice smooth, shiny leather so I could really watch as it distressed naturally: http://imgur.com/a/pnbKd" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

As a followup, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do with all this extra strap? I ended up needing to tighten the back straps a lot (skinny guy) but now they're just flopping all over in the back.

Your jacket looks a more chocolate brown than most Todds seen so far - is that just the lighting in the pics? Some pics of you wearing it would be good - especially outdoors in daylight.

I looped my straps back thru the buckles so they face forward.

So I bit the bullet and bought a Todds jacket. It's a tad shorter than what I'm used to in a Wested, but it's OK. Very thin and flimsy feeling after a Novapelle - but much more Raiders. I really like the colour and texture, which is why I finally bought a non-Wested for the first time in 8 years. The jacket pattern is very similar to the Wested Hero except that the Hero has a way of being shorter in the back than at the front, whereas this one seems to have a bit more back length. All in all I quite like it - it feels more costume like, but that's sort of what I was after, having watched Raiders again. I might even distress it :whip:

What I find interesting is that this seems to be exactlx the same leather as my old Novak - it even smells the same. A much more sensible price though
