The search for pants

Post by Yankee752 »

Well that's a joke waiting to happen

I'm looking for a little advice, as much as my search continues for a SA pair of Raiders pants, with that allusive greyish, pinkish brown color slightly baggy style and the ability to be washed and worn like a real grave robbers pants should be :CR: I'm looking for that same thing only more modern style. I.e., no pleats slimmer legs modern waist flap pockets.

Do these exist?

I've seen the l.l.bean/wrangler "close enough" and some others that could work if you squint your eyes just right. I was thinking of looking for some WWII officer pinks but can't seem to find any thing that doesn't have a high waste or giant oversized leg widths. Should I get a pair of Wested or Magnoli and have them altered for my needs? Or is there another current offering out there from a vendor that does Indiana jones pants?

Well, except for the fact that these trousers (http://www.orvis.com/p/highway-patrol-pants/21pt" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) only have one pocket with a flap (right rear) and that they are pricy -- they are great pants! Pickup up a pair a few weeks ago and these are truly nice! Great cloth, great contemporary fit, but missing one flap! No pleats (which I miss), which you might like. And, I note they are reduced in price even farther then when I purchased. Just an fyi! W>

I don't think having Wested or Magnoli trousers that are pleated can be altered to be flat front. The construction of the trousers are different.

I'm surprised you haven't been able to find any genuine or repro officers pinks to your liking. I can see about the higher waist, but those style trousers are generally military/slim cut in the legs.

Orvis is a good start. I'd continue looking with searches for surplus military wool trousers.

Or, as backstagejack suggested, Magnoli does all custom work. He could create exactly what you want. For a price....

Modifying the design of our Adventure Pants is no problem, the charge is no difference. If it's just the flat front that you're after, our Officer's Pinks should fit the bill.

Kind regards,
Magnoli

Even if you go custom, the color is going to be... well, at least insanely hard, maybe impossible... in the "modern" stye you want. Or even in the Indy style.

If you can let go of the gray/pink color, your cheapest solution is to go buy a pair of slim-fit, flat front, low waist khakis with button-through pockets that are too long for you. Then have the pocket flaps made out of the excess leg fabric.

If that doesn't do it for you, then tell Magnoli what you're looking for. But I'm not sure that any of his fabrics will be machine washable.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm really liking Magnoli's gear more and more every time I see it.
Without Any major thread derailing, for those of you in the know, is Magnoli gear able to take abuse or is it more dress quality, fabric depending?

Well, Magnoli's stuff is definitely high quality made for everyday use, not just costuming.

That being said, I don't think any pair of wool twill trousers would stand up to being dragged behind a truck, etc.
