British Bridle Leather or Hand Dyed Tooling Leather
Hello Everyone,
I am considering purchasing the following Indy items from "MakeitJones"
Whip Holders
Style: Raiders
2 - Wall Hangers
2 - Double Wrap Holders (6 & 8 Foot Whip)
Holster
Style: Raiders
1 - 4 Inch Barrel Holster
Bag Strap
Style: Raiders
1 - Streets of Cairo (Standard with Dulled ROLA Buckle)
Belts
Style: Raiders
1 - Pointed End, Creased, Hand Dyed, Buckle 3 (Dulled)
Style: Crystal Skull
1 - Crystal Skull Belt
I now have to choose between British bridle leather or hand dyed tooling leather. I am looking for suggestions/advice on which leather would look the best (screen accurate/general aesthetics), and hold up the best.
Thanks!

Indeed this is something I'm interested in as well. I'd like to order some custom straps but the bridle leather looks pretty stiff to me.

It's not. I got the bag strap and belt and they are very nice, the belt took a little breaking in tbhIndyRiv wrote:Indeed this is something I'm interested in as well. I'd like to order some custom straps but the bridle leather looks pretty stiff to me.
Re: British Bridle Leather or Hand Dyed Tooling Leather
The Raiders holster, strap and whip holder should be in tooling leather. The Raiders belt should be in hand dyed tooling leather.
The CS belt should be mid-brown dyed thru leather or dark tan hand dyed leather. Personally, I'd go with mid-brown.

For bag straps my preference is bridle leather. It's not SA, but I prefer the durability and the leather breaks in quickly with regular use.

Which option is the more SA - the bridle leather or tooling leather for the bag straps?
Thanks!

Oh I have no idea. I had a black strap made 6 years ago from a leather craftsman in Texas. I opted for bridle leather for the long term durability.

Why do you think I went into detail as to which gear should get such and such leather? And in response to Jeff, yes I prefer bridle leather too, but since he was asking about RAIDERS gear, except the CS belt, I provided with the SA info he requestedIndyRiv wrote: Anyone else with experience with Makeitjones' products know?

Ok, so hand tooled/dyed leather seems to be the general SA leather for Raiders? What about TOD, LC, and the other gear for CS?knibs7 wrote:Why do you think I went into detail as to which gear should get such and such leather? If you're ordering from makeitjones, then yes. And for the other 2.25 movies I would go with bridle leather for the straps and hand dyed tooling leather in dark chocolatey brown for the belts. I think he uses a different, more pliable leather for holsters, but I would say the original Webley holster was made from cowhide... at least that's what mine looks like.IndyRiv wrote:Ok, so hand tooled/dyed leather seems to be the general SA leather for Raiders? Thanks for your advice and thoughts everyone. I think I am going to go with the more SA hand tooled, dyed leather for the raiders stuff, and a little darker "Crusade" belt.
I think they're going to look awesome.

Here is my LC belt from makeitjones. Sorry the picture is kind of small, but it's to give you an idea of what to expect. I absolutely love it.crazylegsmurphy wrote:Thanks for your advice and thoughts everyone. Awesome pic! Is that the actual location in Almeria, Spain? For what it's worth, here's my MakeItJones LC kit (all bridle leather):

TOO cool! The only LC location I've visited is the Berlin airport exterior on Treasure Island:

Late to the party, but here's a comparison of both straps:
Temple/Crusade/Crystal Bridle Leather on original 1942 W&G MkVii, and Raiders "SOC" Aged Tooling Leather on 6 year old Magnoli MkVii with Wade Egan buckle.
The Tooling Leather Strap is 3 months old, and the Bridle Leather Strap is 6 years old.
